Quaker Welcome Center

Quaker Welcome Center Quaker Welcome Center is housed in the former Fountain City Friends Meetinghouse. As the largest Quaker body, it is decidedly centrist.

It is the oldest surviving Quaker Meetinghouse in Eastern Indiana, having been built in 1837. The building served as the headquarters of the Indiana Yearly Meeting of Anti-Slavery Friends of which the famous Levi and Catherine Coffin were a part. The Coffin's aided 2,000+ persons to gain freedom through the Underground Railroad. Quaker Welcome Center is now a ministry of the New Association of Fri

ends, a small group of Quaker Churches and Monthly Meetings in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan. The New Association of Friends is one of 30+ Yearly Meetings associated with Friends United Meeting (FUM), the world's largest Quaker body. Friends belonging to FUM have variously been called pastoral, programmed, and orthodox.

Are you seeing more folks outside of Quakerism or other mystical or aesthetic movements yearning for or teaching the importance of silence? What does silence mean in your life?

Why do we need silence? Because it is the habitat of conversation, thought, and soul.

It is like watching someone pour themselves a shot of Jack Daniels. But in a gallon jug instead of a shot glass. And then w...
