Perhaps you drove by Fossil Methodist Church lately and wondered, "What happened to the sliding glass door?"
We've opened our sanctuary 24/7 for prayer and contemplation. While tidying and humming along with "His Eye is on the Sparrow" playing in the sanctuary, a young robin hit the window. I wanted to move it out of harm's way, but he died in my hands. If you happened to be driving by at the moment, that was me crying over a bird and having a word with God about life and justice.
Two weeks later, a turkey, apparently hearing "His Eye is on the Sparrow" playing in the sanctuary, tried to come to church too. That bird lived, but our door did not survive.
I have removed "His Eye is on the Sparrow" from the sanctuary playlist in case an emu or ostrich moves to town and tries to come to church.
At the garage sale today, there is a donation box to help cover the insurance deductible for the new door. Please stop by, find some treasures, and if you feel led, donate to the new door.
And you don't need feathers to enjoy a quiet place to pray and meditate on God's goodness. The sanctuary is open 24/7 for you.
