Daily Devotion (June 1, 2026)
John 4:23–24 (NKJV)
23But the hour is coming, and now is, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him.
24God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”

Authentic worship is more than external devotion. Authentic worship is rooted in genuine spiritual worship rooted in genuine spiritual connection and alignment with God’s reality. Jesus identifies Himself as The Truth, John 14:6, anchoring this concept in His person and work.

A true Christian worships God from the heart. When God saves a person, it does more than change what they think. It changes who they are. They do not just agree with the message of salvation—they become someone who truly loves and worships God.

Daily Devotion (May 11, 2026)

Psalm 119:105 (NKJV)
105Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.

The Bible describes itself as a lamp.

Ed worked with the boys in church not only teaching them the Word of God but also demonstrating it through outdoor activities. I remember a cold winter night we took the boys on an overnight adventure. It was dark. Ed was teaching the boys how to follow the leader. The boys had to be willing to listen to the instructions and pay attention to the directions given to them. Each step was important. Listening to the leader and his voice was important. The only light the boys had was the voice of the leader.

God’s Word is His voice and the light or lamp navigating us through a world of darkness. How often do we want to get ahead of God and move away from His Word. We stopped listening to His Word. We get distracted by those things surrounding us. Our focus no longer is God but our surroundings. The light has faded. It is not that God has stopped leading us, we have stopped following Him. We come to a point where the world becomes more attractive than God. It may be in our walk with God we become so caught up with our own spirituality we focus more on ourselves than God.

God leads us one step at a time. Only after we have taken the step in following God do we focus on the next step. The next step we take should be guided by God’s Word. Scripture needs to be a regular part of our lives. Read and study God’s Word every day. Cultivate a receptive ear and understanding of God’s Word and direction in your life.

We walk in a world of darkness, spiritual darkness. God does not leave us to make this journey alone. He has given us His Word the Bible. Read His Word. Study His Word. Allow His Word to be real in your life today.

Daily Devotion (May 5, 2026)

1 Peter 5:7 (NKJV)
7casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

Philippians 4:6–7 (NKJV)
6Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God;
7and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

2 Corinthians 12:9–10 (NKJV)
9And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.
10Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in needs, in persecutions, in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (NKJV)
5Trust in the LORD with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
6In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths.

There is no in-between, you either trust God or you do not!

1 Peter 5:7 encourages us to cast “ALL our anxieties on Him” and adds that God cares for us. In prayer, supplication and appeal to God.

Paul in Philippians 4:6-7 promises that when anxiety threatens to overwhelm us, we are to bring our request to God with THANKSGIVING! Knowing What God will do passes all our understanding. God guards our heart and mind. In 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 Paul assures us that God’s grace is sufficient in our weakness.

Proverbs 3:5-6 tells us to acknowledge God “in all our ways.” Our understanding is limited.

How often does life exceed our capacity to be and to do. How often do I try to hold on to what I cannot do and discover I must let go and surrender whatever the situation is to God rather than try and manage it myself. I ask for your prayers today. I am facing a situation I cannot handle. As many things do, it goes beyond my ability. I trust God…at least I want to trust God in the outcome.

Daily Devotion (April 29, 2026)

John 14:6 (KJV 1900)
6Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

You’ve seen the one-way signs on the road. People who have ignored the sign and tried to plow their way through the traffic going the wrong way have not only discovered disaster but have also caused great upheaval in the life of others.

There are many who think they know Christ soon discover their assumed intellect just does not match up with the truth. This happens often in the Christian realm.

Just because I know about Christ does not mean I know Christ. What does knowing Christ mean? It means far more than intellectual assent to doctrine. It means knowing Christ experientially, personally, and through direct involvements with Him. Relational Knowledge of Christ necessitates having emptied yourself of the things of this world and filling your life with the “heart” knowledge of Christ. For the Apostle Paul it meant emptying himself of the things of this world and engaging himself with God through Jesus Christ. The same is true of us.

In this passage of Scripture John affirms that we do not come to God on our own righteousness. We come because of what Christ has done for us on the cross.

There is only one way to eternal life…It is found in and through Jesus Christ.

Daily Devotion (April 24, 2026)
(My Daily Devotions are not written to or about you. They are written to me even though I share them with you. If you are reading this, I believe God is speaking to you through these words.)

Psalm 113 (NKJV)
1Praise the LORD! Praise, O servants of the LORD, Praise the name of the LORD!
2Blessed be the name of the LORD From this time forth and forevermore!
3From the rising of the sun to its going down The LORD’s name is to be praised.
4The LORD is high above all nations, His glory above the heavens.
5Who is like the LORD our God, Who dwells on high,
6Who humbles Himself to behold the things that are in the heavens and in the earth?
7He raises the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap,
8That He may seat him with princes— With the princes of His people.
9He grants the barren woman a home, Like a joyful mother of children. Praise the LORD!

First, the Lord is near to those with broken hearts and saves those with a contrite spirit. (Ps 34:18) Wrong choices and pain position us exactly where God works. God does not despise a broken spirit and contrite heart. (Ps 51:17) “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise.”

Second, speak truth to yourself about God’s character as David did. There are times when I feel there is nothing to give, so what do I do? I should be praising God and watching for him to fill me with His Spirit. Once you remember God’s love and powerful arm working for you, your mood lifts. (This may take a little time.) As you praise God in your emptiness, God fills you with his bigness. I must be honest in my journey with God. Sometimes I have doubts…not about God, but about myself. God will not despise a broken spirit and contrite heart.

(Ps 51:17) “The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart—these, O God, You will not despise.”

Psalm 34:18: “The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

Redundancy is intentional in my writing. They are not necessarily for you but for me. I am a slow learner.

Daily Devotion April 17, 2026

Romans 8:28–30 (NKJV)
28And we know that all things work together for good to those who love God, to those who are the called according to His purpose.
29For whom He foreknew, He also predestined to be conformed to the image of His Son, that He might be the firstborn among many brethren.
30Moreover whom He predestined, these He also called; whom He called, these He also justified; and whom He justified, these He also glorified.

I must once again go back to the song which I cannot remember the title to, but the refrain still goes through my mind and heart.

1 I don't know about tomorrow, I just live from day to day.
I don't borrow from its sunshine, For its skies may turn to gray.
I don't worry o'er the future, For I know what Jesus said,
And today I'll walk beside Him, For He knows what is ahead.
Refrain:
Many things about tomorrow, I don't seem to understand;
But I know who holds tomorrow, And I know who holds my hand.

Sometimes life just happens and then we realize that each day, each moment of the day does not just happen. God is at work in our lives directing us in the way He wants us to go. I know God is and God is in control. I love the hymn written by B.B. McKinney. He and a friend were talking about the call of God. His friend was a missionary who said,
“I don’t know, but wherever He leads, I’ll go.” Of course, we know the hymn “Wherever He leads I’ll go” came out of this conversation. The words of my sister still resonate in my ear. She said, “I would accept Jesus, but I am afraid He would call me to be a missionary in another part of the world.”

How many miss the calling of God because of fear or of not wanting to let go of worldly ideas and ideals.

Prayer ministry has been a calling in my life. I talked with a friend the other day and he brought up prayer ministry. Is this a sign God is saying for me to begin the ministry now?

Any thoughts or suggestions on this would be welcome. Can one do pastoral ministry and prayer ministry together? (Even at an old age.)
