Due to the significant winter weather forecast for this upcoming weekend, we are working a contingency plan to offer a condensed online livestream service in the event that we are not able to meet in person for the Sunday Worship Service on January 25.

We will send out an announcement on Saturday afternoon and also post on our website and social media the status of the Sunday service. (As our nannies come from various distances, the nursery will be closed in any case.)

Please take care of yourselves and keep warm, and if you have any concerns about getting out in the weather, we encourage you to stay home and stay safe!

January 5 - The Last Day of Christmas (Twelfth Night)

In the English Christmas carol “The Twelve Days of Christmas,” the twelve drummers drumming on The Twelfth Day of Christmas are a reminder of the twelve points of doctrine within the Apostle’s Creed.

Christmas Reading: Isaiah 42:5-9 (ESV)
5 Thus says God, the Lord,
who created the heavens and stretched them out,
who spread out the earth and what comes from it,
who gives breath to the people on it
and spirit to those who walk in it:
6 “I am the Lord; I have called you in righteousness;
I will take you by the hand and keep you;
I will give you as a covenant for the people,
a light for the nations,
7 to open the eyes that are blind,
to bring out the prisoners from the dungeon,
from the prison those who sit in darkness.
8 I am the Lord; that is my name;
my glory I give to no other,
nor my praise to carved idols.
9 Behold, the former things have come to pass,
and new things I now declare;
before they spring forth
I tell you of them.”

Collect
O God, who wonderfully created, and yet more wonderfully restored, the dignity of human nature: Grant that we may share the divine life of him who humbled himself to share our humanity, your Son Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

He is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in everything he might be preeminent.

Feast and Fellowship: Circumcision of Our Lord and Holy Name of Our Lord Jesus Christ

Thursday January 1 at 10:00 am we will be celebrating the Circumcision of our Lord and Holy Name of our Lord Jesus Christ. For our fellowship afterwards bring your favorite New Year’s Day dish to share!

On the eighth day after the birth of Jesus, Jan. 1, we celebrate when he was named and circumcised. He was "called Jesus, the name given by the angel before he was conceived in the womb" (Luke 2:21). Under the Law of Moses, all male infants were to be circumcised on the eighth day after birth (Leviticus 12:3). It was also customary at this time for family and friends to witness the naming of the child. The name "Jesus" is from the Hebrew Joshua, or Yehoshuah, "Yahweh is salvation" or "Yahweh will save." Devotion to the Holy Name of Jesus is particularly derived from Philippians 2:9-11, “9 …God has highly exalted him and bestowed on him the name that is above every name, 10 so that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in heaven and on earth and under the earth, 11 and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Bible quotations from ESV)

During this season as we are searching for our next Rector, we will celebrate major feast days as a short 30-40 minute said Evening Prayer service (there is no music) that includes a brief homily about the day. These major feast days fall into two main categories: Principal Feasts, and Holy Days - which are also known as Red Letter Days. These services are a way to connect with the Lord in the midst of your week. The fellowship portion of the Feast and Fellowship events follow the service, and all are welcome to come and go, or come and enjoy the fellowship afterwards.

Christmas Reading: Revelation 19:11-16 (ESV)
11 Then I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse! The one sitting on it is called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he judges and makes war. 12 His eyes are like a flame of fire, and on his head are many diadems, and he has a name written that no one knows but himself. 13 He is clothed in a robe dipped in blood, and the name by which he is called is The Word of God. 14 And the armies of heaven, arrayed in fine linen, white and pure, were following him on white horses. 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty. 16 On his robe and on his thigh he has a name written, King of kings and Lord of lords.

The Collect for The First Sunday of Christmas
Almighty God, you have poured upon us the new light of your incarnate Word: Grant that this light, kindled in our hearts, may shine forth in our lives; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.
