THE BLACK ON BASE PROJECT AND TEXAS RANGERS BASEBALL FOUNDATION HONOR THE 100TH YEARS OF THE NEGRO LEAGUES WITH THE OTHER BOYS OF SUMMER.
The Texas Rangers Baseball Team and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas have come together through the Black on Base Project to honor the legacy of the Negro Leagues through the film The Other Boys of Summer and through an American civil rights pioneer who was refused admissions into Mansfield High School in 1956.
On May 24, 2021, there will be a private screening and discussion of the film, The Other Boys of Summer with producer Lauren Myers and the Coach and Preacher Show. Narrated by the late great Cicley Tyson, selected business leaders, clergy, student athletes, and fans of the Negro Leagues will have an opportunity to view the film and engage in a healthy dialogue on how to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion with compassion, love, and understanding.
On August 30, 2021, the Texas Rangers Baseball Team has invited retired pastor, Dr. FS Moody to throw out the "first pitch" on in honor of the 65th Anniversary of the Mansfield High School Desegregation Battle on August 30, 1956.
Pastor Moody was one of three black students who were refused entrance into Mansfield High School simply because of the color of their skin.
We salute the Texas Rangers Baseball Team and the Ministers Justice Coalition of Texas for remembering the legacy of Negro Leagues and the Dr. Moody. We encourage everyone to join us on these historic days in American history.
