This morning, our parish came together for one mass followed by an indoor picnic. Bishop Reed confirmed two parishioners, and we recognized Father Jeff’s 25th anniversary of his ordination as a priest. What a wonderful way to celebrate Pentecost!

Pentecost is a day of great celebration for our entire Church, but especially for us here at Holy Apostles. It is the moment when the Holy Spirit descended upon the Apostles and it is a time in which we celebrate the lives of all the Apostles whom we look to as the Church of the Holy Apostles.

The name of our parish is more than just a name, it's a reminder to us that the lives and ministry of the Apostles are examples of the holiness to which we are called to follow and imitate in our lives.

Each one of the Apostles lived very different lives before they met Christ to their lives after they met Christ. From their lives before Christ, we can see men who came from all different kinds of background, they were fishermen, tax collectors, and more, and we see how they change through their listening and learning from the preaching and teaching of Jesus and become men who not only change their own lives but help others to change by bringing them to Christ.

The Apostles whom we celebrate and after whom we are named as a parish are examples to us that through Christ great things can be done in and through us in this world no matter our background or past.

On Sunday, May 24th, we celebrate the Feast of Pentecost with a combined 9:00 a.m. mass, followed by a photo of our parish and then a picnic. Feel free to wear red for the photo.

This is a time for us to celebrate as a parish the gift of the Holy Spirit to the Apostles at Pentecost. The very name of our parish reminds us of the importance of the work of the apostles. Through the passing on of the faith through the apostles, today we are able to know and understand the Good News of Jesus Christ as proclaimed to them many years ago and the importance of the faith which they passed on to us and we in turn pass on to others. This is a time for us to give thanks and to remember the faith those who have come before us have passed on to us.

Let us rejoice and celebrate this weekend the gift of faith which we have received from the apostles and those who have come before us, and pledge that we will continue to pass that faith on to others!
