Arborlawn UMC

Arborlawn UMC is a church located in southwest Fort Worth where we gather to worship, learn, and serve. We have three opportunities to worship.

We hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day yesterday, celebrating and remembering those that nurture and care for us. If you didn't grab one of the 6 different bookmarks yesterday, we still have some for you! Our final two we celebrate in our "Mothers in the Bible" series are below. We hope you found these facts about these subjects impactful, knowing that these women came from all walks of life and have different journeys they shared.

𝗚𝗼𝗱 | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗨𝘀
- God is forever our comforting parent, taking the place of Father and Mother
- "As a mother comforts her child, so will I comfort you" (Isaiah 66:13)
- “How often I have wanted to gather your children together as a hen protects her chicks beneath her wings” (Matthew 23:37
- “Like an eagle that rouses her chicks and hovers over her young, so he spread his wings to take them up and carried them safely on his pinions” (Deut 32:11)

𝗔𝗻𝗻 𝗝𝗮𝗿𝘃𝗶𝘀 | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗖𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿'𝘀 𝗗𝗮𝘆
- She established the modern, official Mother's Day in 1908 to honor her mother's wish to commemorate the service mothers provide
- She organized Mothers' Day Work Clubs in the 1850s to educate women on health, hygiene, and reducing child mortality
- She organized Mothers' Friendship Clubs to support both Union and Confederate soldiers, and later focused on uniting families
- Following her mother's death in 1905, Anna organized the first official Mother's Day service on May 10, 1908

- She is the mother of John the Baptizer
- She is the cousin of Mary, mother of Jesus

- She is mentioned 19 times in the New Testament, appearing more often than any other woman

- She prompted Jesus’ first miracle at a wedding in Cana, turning water into wine
- When Jesus died, he entrusted her to care for the apostle John, as her son

- She is known as the mother of the leaders of the Exodus generation

- Her Hebrew name, Chavah, sounds like the Hebrew word for life-giver
- She struggled with having sons who were constantly at odds with one another
- Her part in the introduction of sin, lead to the fall of humanity, expulsion from Eden, and curses upon human life, including painful childbirth and broken relationships
- She is looked upon as redeemed

𝗦𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗵 | 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗼𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿 𝗪𝗵𝗼 𝗪𝗮𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗱
- She was originally named Sarai, but renamed by God as part of her covenant to be a mother of nations
- She laughed in unbelief when God told her she would become a mother in her old age
- She named her son Isaac, meaning “laughter”, when her laughter of unbelief turned to joy
