New Hope Fellowship

New Hope Fellowship We are a Christian Church in South Fort Worth, grounded in the belief that the love of Jesus changes the world.

New Hope Fellowship is a community of faith in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ). It began as two Disciples of Christ congregations in Fort Worth: Morningside Christian Church (founded 1924, later becoming Hillside Christian Church in 1962) and Memorial Christian Church (founded 1945). The two churches merged in 1973, and “Hillside Memorial Christian Church” continued to serve the Greater

Fort Worth area for many years, with multiple generations of families from all over the Metroplex. In 2009, the congregation began a process of church transformation to help it continue as a beacon of light and hope in the world and a place of fellowship for those seeking faith in Jesus Christ. Proclaiming the Easter promise of new hope and sharing together in the unity and fellowship of the Holy Spirit, “New Hope Fellowship” has emerged from a rich history of ministry to serve others and witness to God's love.

2026 Chili Cook-off was a big success. We had 10 different chilis, several varieties of cornbread, and lots of delicious desserts. Thanks to all who prepared food and helped with clean-up. And congratulations to the winners of the cook-off!

In a time when so much is crumbling, is burning, I don’t want to romanticize the ashes that come with destruction and devastation. As we approach Ash Wednesday and the season of Lent, I do want to keep asking what the Holy One can do with dust, and to keep looking for how I can be part of that. So many blessings to you, beloved ones, as the new season arrives.

BLESSING THE DUST

All those days
you felt like dust,
like dirt,
as if all you had to do
was turn your face
toward the wind
and be scattered
to the four corners

or swept away
by the smallest breath
as insubstantial—

did you not know
what the Holy One
can do with dust?

This is the day
we freely say
we are scorched.

This is the hour
we are marked
by what has made it
through the burning.

This is the moment
we ask for the blessing
that lives within
the ancient ashes,
that makes its home
inside the soil of
this sacred earth.

So let us be marked
not for sorrow.
And let us be marked
not for shame.
Let us be marked
not for false humility
or for thinking
we are less
than we are

but for claiming
what God can do
within the dust,
within the dirt,
within the stuff
of which the world
is made
and the stars that blaze
in our bones
and the galaxies that spiral
inside the smudge
we bear.

All I am saying is that anyone can do this. Anyone can ask and anyone can bless, whether anyone has authorized you to do it or not. All I am saying is that the world needs you to do this, because there is a real shortage of people willing to kneel wherever they are and recognize the holiness holding its sometimes bony, often tender, always life-giving hand above their heads.

Where did we come from? Why do bad things happen to good people? Who is my neighbor? Where do we go from here? No one should have to start from scratch with questions like these. Overhearing the answers of the world's great religions can help anyone improve his or her own answers. Without a religion, these questions often do not get asked.
