What a lovely evening to celebrate Ascension Day! Even the wind got involved! In the Anglican expression it’s common to celebrate the Ascension of Christ outdoors, where we can turn our hearts and minds heavenwards. Our St. Andrews family communed together in Burnett Park and had a fabulous picnic dinner afterwards (thanks )! 🌬️🧺☁️🌳

He is risen—and we’re still celebrating. 🌿✨

In the liturgical year, Easter lasts for 50 days—not just one Sunday. It’s a season of joy, renewal, and living in the truth that Jesus is alive. Rooted in word and sacrament, we continue to live into the promise of resurrection.

The Feast of Candlemas, observed forty days after Christmas, celebrates the light of Christ presented to the world! Candlemas concludes the Epiphany Season and illuminates the remaining darkness of winter. In Luke 2 we read the story of Christ’s birth, complete with angels, shepherds, and swaddling clothes; but the story doesn’t end there… Some time after Jesus was born, Joseph and Mary took Him to the Temple in Jerusalem according to Jewish custom. While there a man named Simeon came into the Temple; God had promised Simeon that he would see the Savior before he died, and that promise was fulfilled. Rembrandt van Rijn paints this exact scene with a reverent hand, creating a hushed vignette of light and worship.
Amid the hustle and bustle of a busy Temple, Simeon kneels with Christ in his arms, his face illuminated by the pure light emanating from the infant. The usual crowd of Temple visitors ebbs and flows around this small tableau vivant, seemingly unaware of the prophecy fulfillment happening before them. Upon holding the Christ Child in his arms Simeon blessed God, saying “Lord, now you are letting your servant depart in peace, according to your word; for my eyes have seen your salvation that you have prepared in the presence of all peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and for glory to your people Israel.” (Luke 2:29-32)
