THREE MARKS OF A FAITH THAT SURVIVES ANYTHING

In 2 Kings 5, a kidnapped girl is carried into a foreign country, away from her people, her parents, and her worship. She had every reason to be mad at God. Even though she's far from home, she's never far from God. That's faith that stays steady when life falls apart.

Her master had leprosy. Nobody would have blamed her for thinking, I hope he dies. I hope they all die. They're my enemy. She showed her enemy concern instead of contempt, a faith that wants to bless the nations, not just her own.

Who's ever heard of cured leprosy? She believed in the ableness of God, a God who could do the imponderable and who never met the impossible. That's a faith that still expects Him to move.

The next generation is watching for this kind of faith: steady when life falls apart, gracious toward the people who hurt them, and confident that God still moves today. Let's model it, and let's ask for it. What kind of faith are we handing them?

WHY GOD NEVER PICKED A FAVORITE NATION

Israel is not God's favorite nation. She was chosen, and chosen came with a job.

Her calling was to carry out the rescue plan God announced through Abraham: reach all the nations through the One who was coming. Israel was supposed to be a light to the nations.

But she sang a better theology than she lived. She rejected that mission, and it didn't change or alter or deter God's plan.

The prophets began pointing to someone coming, a Messiah who would restore what God set out to do from the start. Isaiah's book ends on that promise in Isaiah 66:18: "I'm about to come and gather the people of all nations, and they will come and see My glory."

Jesus arriving was God keeping His promise to Abraham. Matthew reads it this way in Matthew 12:21: "In His name the nations will put their hope." God never picked a favorite because He was always after all of them, so keep the gospel that wide.
