All are welcome! We are a multicultural, bilingual, multigenerational congregation in downtown Fort Worth seeking to step out in faith and walk towards Jesus. Bluff Street, Gethsemane has a long history of serving the people of the Trinity River Bottom of Fort Worth, a
s well as being active in the local, regional and national bodies of the Presbyterian Church USA. Since its beginnings as a mission organized and supported by several local Presbyterian churches, the church dedicated itself to support the Mexican-American people in the area, encouraging them to become prominent and active members of their community. English classes, job training, and citizenship classes were taught. One of the first community services was the founding of a school for Mexican children in the area, in partnership with the city of Fort Worth. Guillermo A. Walls and 23 congregants gathered together and a declaration was brought forward to organize a church. At midnight, on January 1, 1927, The First Mexican Presbyterian Church was born. In the years since then the church has continued to be involved in local, regional and national missions. A medical clinic was established in the early days to address rampant diseases in the area. Gethsemane was one of 11 faith-based organizations in Fort Worth that founded Meals on Wheels in 1973 (Gethsemane served as the first headquarters). Volunteers for the annual Habitat for Humanity Presbyterian Build looked forward to breakfast enchiladas prepared by church members. Now called Gethsemane Presbyterian Church, we are a blended/bilingual congregation. Worship services and fellowship gatherings include elements offered in both Spanish and English, and our members come from a variety of nationalities and ethnic and cultural backgrounds. Sunday mornings both English and Spanish Sunday School classes are offered at 9:45 am; the bilingual worship service begins at 11:00 am. A Spanish-language Bible Study is offered several times a month, on Monday evenings.
