PRELUDE

*CALL TO WORSHIP Michele Wersal
Leader: The kingdom of God is here, and coming.
People: A mustard seed that someone took and sowed in his
field; it is the smallest of all the seeds, but when it has
grown it is the greatest of shrubs and becomes a tree, so
that the birds of the air come and make nests in its
branches.
Leader: The kingdom of God is here, and coming.
People: Yeast that a woman took and mixed in with three
measures of flour until all was leavened.
Leader: The kingdom of God is here, and coming.
People: Treasure hidden in a field, which someone found and hid;
then joyfully sells all he has and buys the field.
Leader: The kingdom of God is here, and coming.
People: A merchant in search of fine pearls; on finding one of
great value, sells all of his possessions and buys the pearl.
The kingdom of God is here and coming!

*OPENING HYMN
Jesus Calls Us UMH 398 vs. 1,2,5
1. Jesus calls us o'er the tumult of our life's wild, restless sea;
day by day his sweet voice soundeth, saying, "Christian, follow me!"

2. As of old the apostles heard it by the Galilean lake,
turned from home and toil and kindred, leaving all for Jesus' sake.

5. Jesus calls us! By thy mercies, Savior, may we hear thy call,
give our hearts to thine obedience, serve and love thee best of all.

*OPENING PRAYER Michele Wersal
O God of us all, meet us here today and teach us to recognize the covenant of justice, peace and love you have written on our hearts. By your grace, may our desires become your desires, our work become your work, and our community the place where you are sought and found. Amen.

2. Take up thy cross, let not its weight fill thy weak spirit with alarm;
his strength shall bear thy spirit up, and brace thy heart and nerve thine arm.

4. Take up thy cross and follow Christ, nor think till death to lay it down; for only those who bear the cross may hope to wear the glorious crown.

Take Time to Be Holy UMH 395 vs. 1,2,4
1. Take time to be holy, speak oft with thy Lord; abide in him always, and feed on his word. Make friends of God's children, help those who are weak, forgetting in nothing his blessing to seek.

2. Take time to be holy, the world rushes on; spend much time in secret with Jesus alone. By looking to Jesus, like him thou shalt be;
thy friends in thy conduct his likeness shall see.

4. Take time to be holy, be calm in thy soul, each thought and each motive beneath his control. Thus led by his spirit to fountains of love, thou soon shalt be fitted for service above.

*CALL TO WORSHIP Michele Wersal
Leader: God of grace, be with us.
All: Spirit of truth, be within us.
Leader: Spirit of love, we are searching for you, reaching for you.
All: Christ, who loves us, come to us, and do not leave us
orphaned.
Leader: We are in you, as you are in God.
All: Be with us and within us. Even in the mystery, be with us.

*OPENING HYMN
I Sing the Almighty Power of God UMH 152
1. I sing the almighty power of God, that made the mountains rise,
that spread the flowing seas abroad, and built the lofty skies.
I sing the wisdom that ordained the sun to rule the day;
the moon shines full at God's command, and all the stars obey.

2. I sing the goodness of the Lord, who filled the earth with food,
who formed the creatures thru the Word, and then pronounced them good.
Lord, how thy wonders are displayed, where'er I turn my eye,
if I survey the ground I tread, or gaze upon the sky.

3. There's not a plant or flower below, but makes thy glories known,
and clouds arise, and tempests blow, by order from thy throne;
while all that borrows life from thee is ever in thy care;
and everywhere that we can be, thou, God, art present there.

*OPENING PRAYER Michele Wersal
Loving God, you have created us to reach out to you.
So we reach out, in love and need. Speak to us, stir in us, so we may find you and know you. Amen.

Hymn of Promise UMH 707
1 In the bulb there is a flower; in the seed, an apple tree;
in cocoons, a hidden promise: butterflies will soon be free!
In the cold and snow of winter there's a spring that waits to be,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

2 There's a song in every silence, seeking word and melody;
there's a dawn in every darkness bringing hope to you and me.
From the past will come the future; what it holds, a mystery,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

3 In our end is our beginning; in our time, infinity;
in our doubt there is believing; in our life, eternity.
In our death, a resurrection; at the last, a victory,
unrevealed until its season, something God alone can see.

*CALL TO WORSHIP Michele Wersal

room for all your Beloved.
All: We belong to you.

take us into yourself.

*OPENING HYMN
I Want to Walk as a Child of the Light UMH 206
1. I want to walk as a child of the light. I want to follow Jesus.
God set the stars to give light to the world.
The star of my life is Jesus.

Refrain: In him there is no darkness at all. The night and the day are both alike. The Lamb is the light of the city of God. Shine in my heart, Lord Jesus.

2. I want to see the brightness of God. I want to look at Jesus.
Clear Sun of Righteousness, shine of my path, and show me the way to the Father. (Refrain)

3. I’m looking for the coming of Christ. I want to be with Jesus.
When we have run with patience the race, we shall know the joy of Jesus. (Refrain)

*AFFIRMATION OF FAITH Michele Wersal
We believe in God, creator of all that is and all that is to come, in
whose house are many rooms; and who prepares a place for
us, so that where God is, we may be also.
We trust in Jesus, who is our way, and our truth, and our life.
Through him we have seen God, who lived and worked in him.
We live by the Holy Spirit, who lives and works in us; so that we
may do the works that Jesus does, and even greater works; so
that God may be glorified. Alleluia!

His Eye Is on the Sparrow TFWS 2146
1. Why should I feel discouraged? Why should the shadows come? Why should my heart be lonely and long for heaven and home, When Jesus is my portion? My constant friend is he:

Refrain: His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me;
His eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.
I sing because I’m happy, (I’m happy,) I sing because I’m free, (I’m free,) for his eye is on the sparrow, and I know he watches me.

2. “Let not your heart be troubled,” his tender word I hear,
and resting on his goodness, I lose my doubts and fears; though by the path he leadeth but one step I may see: [Refrain]

3. Whenever I am temped, whenever clouds arise,
when song gives place to sighing, when hope within me dies,
I draw the closer to him, from care he sets me free: [Refrain]
