“The good person out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth what is good; and the evil person out of the evil treasure brings forth what is evil; for his mouth speaks from that which fills his heart.” Luke 6:45

If you wish to identify a tree, you have to examine its fruit. Jesus used this imagery to show that our outward actions reveal the true condition of our hearts. In a way, our words serve as the overflow valve for our souls.

What we allow in ultimately dictates what comes out. If we fill our minds with worry, dread, stress, and worldly negativity, those things will eventually spill over for everyone to see. Conversely, if we intentionally fill our minds with Christ, His goodness, kindness, and love, those virtues will also naturally reflect in our lives.

If you want to change your speech, change what you allow into your heart. Guard your heart today and be careful what you let in. Anchor yourself in the blessed hope of Christ, and let your words bring life and encouragement to everyone you meet. Let’s be the people who pour out Christ to the world and leave no doubt in their minds who it is we serve!

I recently spoke with a new Christian who admitted that the thought of Christ’s return terrified him. The massive scale of the event, and the idea that it could happen in his lifetime, felt overwhelming.

But as I listened, I couldn’t help but feel a rush of excitement! For those who are saved, this shouldn’t spark fear. It is a moment of ultimate triumph and profound peace.

Look at the promise in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-18:
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore, encourage one another with these words.”

The thought of being with Christ forever should bring us great joy, even if the scene itself is shocking to imagine. As Philippians 3:20 reminds us, our true citizenship is in Heaven, and we eagerly await our Savior!

Take comfort today knowing that this world is not our permanent home. We are just passing through. Encourage someone with that peace today!

1 Peter 5:5-7 (NKJV)
Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for
“God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.”
Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.

To love God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength; and to love one another as yourself. We can’t do that unless we humble ourselves before Him and before one another.

God is the one that brings down and the one that exalts. And that is on His timeline. Humble yourself before Him and let Him take care of everything else.

Matthew 23:12 (NKJV)
And whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.

Pride versus humility… something we all probably struggle with. God resists the proud but gives grace to the humble (James 4:6). And it is not a good thing to be humbled by God (yes, I have experienced that).

It is far better to humble ourselves before our God and King, and even toward one another. It is not a contest to see who is bigger, better, stronger, or greater. For there is only one God, one Savior, one Comforter. And no one… absolutely no one, is bigger, better, stronger, or greater than He.

Matthew 23:11 (NKJV)
But he who is greatest among you shall be your servant.

In the Kingdom of God, there are some that are called into full-time service as pastors, missionaries, and the like. But all of us are called to serve… to serve our Lord and Savior, to serve our church, to serve one another.

Even the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many. (Matt. 20:28)

Let us encourage one another by serving one another.

Exodus 33:18 (ESV)
Moses said, “Please show me your glory.”

Oh, to see God’s glory! But even Moses, a friend of God, was only allowed to see a portion of His glory as He passed by. So how would we ever see His glory today?

We get a glimpse of God’s glory in His creation. All around us are astounding and amazing things which He alone created.

We get a glimpse of God’s glory in prayer… to go before His throne of grace, into His presence through Jesus Christ our intermediator.

We get a glimpse of God’s glory in church… to enjoy fellowship with Him and one another in the institution that Christ established, as we sing praises and learn from His precious word.

We get a glimpse of God’s glory in His word… to study and meditate on the amazing truths of His power, majesty, and holiness.

Perhaps we even get a glimpse of God’s glory in our own hearts… tender towards Him, a broken heart and a contrite spirit, free to praise Him.

We can experience a portion of His glory each day and encourage one another in the process.

Romans 5:8 (NKJV)
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

This Memorial Day let us remember those men and women who gave their lives for our country, for our freedoms, and for us; that we might enjoy the many blessings of the Lord in this nation.

May we remember those of our faith that have gone before us, some of them giving their lives for the gospel of Jesus Christ, persevering to the end.

Let us remember Jesus Christ our Savior, who died in our place. He gave his life freely for us, knowing what He would face, knowing the shame and the suffering He would endure. Yet He did it anyway.

Let us bring glory, honor, and praise to Him this day and every day.

John 8:7 (NKJV)
So when they continued asking Him, He raised Himself up and said to them, “He who is without sin among you, let him throw a stone at her first.”

We all have sinned -
Romans 3:23 (NKJV) For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,

None of us are perfect -
Romans 3:10 (NKJV) As it is written: “There is none righteous, no, not one;”

Don’t judge one another -
Luke 6:37 (NKJV) “Judge not, and you shall not be judged. Condemn not, and you shall not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.”

Forgive one another -
Matthew 6:14-15 (NKJV) “For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses.”

We all need the Light of the world -
John 8:12 (NKJV) Then Jesus spoke to them again, saying, “I am the light of the world. He who follows Me shall not walk in darkness, but have the light of life.”
