Luke 10:41-42 (NKJV)
And Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”
Distractions are additional “noise” in our lives, and many times we bring those distractions on ourselves, even if we are doing things for the Lord. There are times when we may take on more and more tasks and activities in serving, but lose sight of what is most important.
God wants us to focus on Him, not all the busyness. Too much busyness brings worry, stress, and trouble, even as we see with Martha in Luke 10:38-42. She was so “distracted with much serving” that she lost sight of Jesus. Maybe compare it to driving while texting… driving is okay, texting is okay, but doing both simultaneously is not okay. You can’t focus on both and do either one well.
While serving is important and something we all must do, it is not the most important, and should never cause us to lose sight of our Savior. Remember in all you do, that sitting at the feet of Jesus is the “one thing needed”.
