Ezekiel 3:17 (NKJV)
“Son of man, I have made you a watchman for the house of Israel; therefore hear a word from My mouth, and give them warning from Me:”

Sometimes we may get our priorities out of order. Things happen, perhaps we get distracted, a little selfish, and looking for the wrong things. But our first priority should always be to God… to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul, and strength, and to love others as ourselves.

And in that we have a God-given responsibility to be a watchman for others, to tell them of their need for a Savior. We are to not only listen and read God’s word, but we are to warn others of impending judgement, for He is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance.

Take the next step in being God’s watchman, to faithfully tell others of the good news of Jesus Christ and what He has done.

Romans 10:14-15 (NKJV)
How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written:
“How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the gospel of peace,
Who bring glad tidings of good things!”

When reading these verses in Romans 10, we most likely think about missionaries being called to take the gospel to other nations. But we who are not missionaries are still called to spread the gospel of Jesus Christ.

That will look different for us, whether that is bringing the gospel to our family, our neighbors, our friends, someone we met out and about, or even through special outreach events for our church. We have the responsibility of telling others what Jesus has done for us… no need for rehearsed, fancy, or eloquent words, but just open and honest conversation from the heart.

Don’t worry about how your feet may look, just use them to bring glad tidings of good things to others, speaking the truth in love, that they may know our Savior.

Philippians 3:12 (NKJV)
Not that I have already attained, or am already perfected; but I press on, that I may lay hold of that for which Christ Jesus has also laid hold of me.

Even Paul, as a great man of faith, did not reach “perfection” in this life, but continued to strive each day for Jesus Christ. We cannot say to ourselves, “Soul, take your ease, you have many goods laid up for many years” (Luke 12:19). For we have a work to do… to be about our Father’s business (Luke 2:49).

God has plans for us in this life, and He will perform what He set out to do (Ephesians 2:10).
Even so, let us continue reaching to what He desires for us.

Isaiah 43:18-19 (NKJV)
“Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.
Behold, I will do a new thing,
Now it shall spring forth;
Shall you not know it?
I will even make a road in the wilderness
And rivers in the desert.”

No sense in dwelling on things in the past, as they are in the past and cannot be changed. We can learn from the past but should not dwell on it.

We are to look toward God, who can and will do amazing things… things we wouldn’t have even thought. He will do things we haven’t seen, making new things in spite of what is in the past.

Whatever happens today, keep your eyes on the Lord, for only He can make things new.

Ephesians 3:20-21 (NKJV)
Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Our God is amazing! His ways our higher than our ways, and His thoughts higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). He is able to do things way above what we can imagine.

He deserves all the glory, especially in the church, as He gave His life for the church. May we praise and adore Him above all others… the One Christ Jesus, whose power lives and works in us.

Psalms 134 (NASB) - A Song of Ascents.
Behold, bless the LORD, all servants of the LORD,
Who serve by night in the house of the LORD!
Lift up your hands to the sanctuary
And bless the LORD.
May the LORD bless you from Zion,
He who made heaven and earth.

A song of ascents was traditionally sung by the Israelites as they traveled uphill to Jerusalem for major religious festivals. They were to help prepare hearts to meet with the Lord.

Let us prepare our hearts in similar manner, singing of God’s glory, remembering what He has done for us, remembering His goodness, especially our salvation in Jesus Christ; that when we meet each service, we as His servants, as His children, can bless His holy name.

Matthew 21:13 (NKJV)
And He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you have made it a ‘den of thieves.’ ”

God’s house, His church, is special to Him. It is a place where He meets with us. In the Old Testament, His temple was to be called “a house of prayer for all nations” (Isaiah 56:7). It is no different today.

God made us to dwell with Him, and He desires to be with us. Our church is set aside as His temple, for us to be with Him, to serve and worship Him. It is to be for that purpose… without distraction, without noise, without other priorities and purposes.

May we, His people, His church, His temple, meet to serve and worship Him in spirit and in truth, as He makes us joyful in His house of prayer (Isaiah 56:7).

1 Corinthians 12:12 (NASB)
For even as the body is one and yet has many members, and all the members of the body, though they are many, are one body, so also is Christ.

We all have different backgrounds. You may know the story of some people in our church and not know the story of others. But, no matter our stories or backgrounds, God has put us all together in the church.

In thinking about different people in scripture with different backgrounds, God worked in their lives to put them in the church where He needed them.
Paul was religious but against the church initially, until He met Jesus.
Timothy was raised by a godly mother and grandmother.
Cornelius was a gentile who had a heart for God.
Lydia was saved when the Lord opened her heart at Paul’s preaching.

No matter when we were saved, nor when we joined the church, nor which part of the body we are as individuals, we all have our place in which God has put us. He makes no mistakes, and He put us together into one body, full of love and unity for one another… for His glory.
