I had the pleasure of seeing Jonathan Greenblatt – the Director of the Anti-Defamation League – at TCU on Monday. He presented very strong, compelling arguments for constant vigilance against antisemitism, and how it affects so many other, potentially marginalized groups as well.

Kimberly and I went on a Passages of the Bible cruise, embarking out of Athens on October 6. It was a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, hosted by Educational Opportunities, and featuring Rev. Adam Hamilton - author of multiple Bible studies and Senior Pastor at Church of the Resurrection (the largest United Methodist Church in the US).

The first night, we had a meeting in the theater. There were over 450 pilgrims looking forward to a phenomenal trip. Educational Opportunities was started by a United Methodist minister whose vision was to enable other ministers to visit the Holy Land to make them better clergy.

Of course, little did we know on Day 1 that only hours before being scheduled to dock to visit Galilee and Bethlehem, there would be terror attacks in Israel.

The second night, I went to a Jewish Yizkor service followed by a Torah service. The Yizkor service is a service of mourning to remember the family members of Jews who have passed. It was very moving to have participants mention their family members who were murdered in the Holocaust.

It was at this service that we first heard reports of the attacks in Israel. Soon thereafter, we learned that we would not be going to either Israel or Egypt.
