1 Peter 5:7
Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Someone told me many years ago in a conversation about anxiety and stress, they had none. I said how on earth can you not have any? They stared me straight in my eyes and said “my God Box!” It’s one of those moments where you are on the edge of your seat already because no stress in your life sounds really good. So I bit and asked, “What is a God Box?”

They began to tell me a story, about their life… nothing out of the ordinary till one of their close relatives was diagnosed with cancer. They worried, stressed and were in chaos. They went to their pastor who calmly asked them have they ever thought about a “God Box?”

He continued on and said go home tonight find a jewelry box, a shoe box, or a Kleenex box. Put this verse in there, any time you have a worry, stress, or anxiety write it down. At the end of the day when saying your prayers, deliberately tell God “I am handing this over to you!” Put your notes in there, close the box and go to sleep.

Never think about it again, continue your prayers and if by chance the devil dangles the thought of one of your notes… tell him “I gave that to God, you won’t get me!”

For the record, their relative went into remission and has been clear of cancer ever since!

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me”

There are many different versions of this Bible verse, until a few weeks ago when I started digging deep into this verse did I see things differently. Many people look at this verse as one for trials and tribulations, but if you read the prior verses you will see Paul is saying rejoice in the Lord always.

Through good times and bad we can do all things through Christ, so in good times… does that look like helping a family in need? Helping your neighbor who you know can’t mow her yard in this heat? (I’m starting to feel that way!)

Everything I end up on in my journey talks about running to God, if you’re not running you better pick up the pace because tomorrow is not guaranteed.

“Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” (1 John 4:8)

This is one of my favorite verses of the Bible… the depth that those twelve words can take your mind if you really start to process it is amazing.

For us to be in a true relationship with God we know love, how many times have you heard the saying “You can’t love someone else if you don’t love yourself.” I have said it more times than I can ever imagine, but tonight writing this it hit me. It’s about loving yourself and it’s about your relationship with God. Everyone I have ever said this to have been at a point in their life where they were walking through the valleys of life. How do we depict a sad person or a sad face? It’s looking down or turned upside down. If I am looking up at God, talking to God, strengthening my relationship with God I will begin to love myself, others, and the world. Because God is love, we don’t need a million self help books. We need one, the Bible. Please, next time you feel down, or are questioning life. Don’t let your flesh win, pick your head up and talk to God.

I was listening to a podcast the other day, when the gentleman started talking about your goal in life is for every time you look in the mirror in the morning to look more and more like Jesus… this is a metaphor so to speak but I pondered on it for a good while.

In our walk with Christ, we should strive to see the man in the mirror. I might be aging myself but I immediately thought of Michael Jackson’s song “Man in the mirror”, I went back and listened to the song but the chorus resonated with me.

“I'm starting with the man in the mirror
I'm asking him to change his ways
And no message could've been any clearer
If they wanna make the world a better place
Take a look at yourself and then make a change”

Many of us walk with God and are strong in our faith, but are we waking up every day with the intent to make the world a better place? In the rat race we call life we find ourself putting all of our stuff first, what if we put everyone else first and sat back and watched our blessings come flowing in?

Proverbs 11:25: “Whoever brings blessing will be enriched, and one who waters will himself be watered.”

All right, bear with me for a moment and play this game… Think back to your childhood, whether it be the 60s, 70s, 80s, or 90s… We all have one song… you know that one that gets your head bobbing! You can hear those first two beats and you just start smiling and it instantly takes you back to your childhood… Why?

For me, it’s because I had no problems, no issues, no worries, and I knew my mom was always going to take care of me. I trusted her, I knew that whatever I did, she would always love me, forgive me and most of all she would always be there for me.

So why do we worry today? Why is it that we can’t put all our trust in God like we did our parents as youths? In the book of Mathew, Jesus talks about childlike faith…

When was the last time you had childlike faith? That issue that you just can’t let go of, seems to keep you up at night. Let God come take the pain or stress away, give it to him. Be the 5 year old child who knows that our Lord, Jesus Christ will take care of it.

As you can see I have started writing my devotionals, there is no coincidence that I went to confession and told the priest that I wanted to seek Jesus’s face fervently. Thanks for letting me write my own daily devotionals for me and just send on to each of you and hope something may stick.

Take 5 minutes after you think of your song, think of the feelings it gives you. Think of what it was like to trust someone to take care of you.

Be that kid again!

I have not been on here in a good amount of time, I noticed that the website did not carry over my daily devos. Well, I just happen to have them!

Written in 2022, I may be getting the itch to start writing again!

This is the devotional that started my own writing, I have gone back and edited it some. This was written almost 6 1/2 months ago, since then I have written probably close to 130 more.

“The words that changed my life.”

It was winter of 2017, Georgia was having one of its worst snowstorms in their history. Here I was driving a rental car in the Kennesaw Mountains to meet a man I had spoken to once on the phone.

I arrived at a beautiful cabin about midway up in the mountain range. There I sat with a Retired Army Ranger Colonel, he had been through both the last two wars. A leader of many men, who was a great motivator. He was respected by his men, and he had invited me to Georgia to discuss helping Veterans.

Little did I know this trip would change my life. It was changed by these 15 words…

"Change the way you look at things and the things you look at will change"

How did this change my life? Fast forward…

It was 2019, I had just separated from my wife and about to be divorced. My world was thrown upside down, and I was scared. Change is hard for us as humans, we become comfortable in our environment. I knew for myself, my son and my future that change was necessary.

The quote above became my mantra, for everything I did, when I ran into problems they became opportunities. Personal failures became reasons for my success stories, and so on. I saw everything through a different lens, I was calm where I once was anxious. I was methodical, where I usually would be careless.

Here's why I am saying this, one of you that I send these to are looking at your life, your kids, or your career and wondering where you went wrong. I'm here to tell you, you DID NOT GO WRONG! Everything you do today is preparing you for tomorrow’s successes. We tend to cross lines between our plan and God's plan. One's a vision and the other is "THE WAY"

I've realized that not everyone has visions of becoming one of the wealthiest men in the world, because wealth is seen in so many different measurements. To some it may be financial, others spiritual, and to some it might just be their family. All of these can bring “wealth” to us.

Look around me, I have people that hear a ding at 6:00-7:00 am every morning and say "there's Paul." I have friends that would die for me, I have a girlfriend (now Fiance) that God put back in my life to show me the riches that HIS PLAN had for me.

If you run into a situation where you feel like it's not right or not fair, think about the quote above. Say it a few times... but most of all remember who's PLAN we need to see our lives out of.

How did I end up with this one today? What made me go back and read it? Don’t know, but I trust his plan.

Why did I choose to go back and edit? Because, you can’t change the past but in the future you might change the way you look at things.

It’s not goodbye, it’s till I start writing again.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-11
“There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens: a time to be born and a time to die, a time to plant and a time to uproot, a time to kill and a time to heal, a time to tear down and a time to build, a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them, a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing, a time to search and a time to give up, a time to keep and a time to throw away, a time to tear and a time to mend, a time to be silent and a time to speak, a time to love and a time to hate, a time for war and a time for peace. What do workers gain from their toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on the human race. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”

As some of you know I took off from writing a few days last week. There’s a season for everything, and my writing and sending daily texts will be paused. Everything is fine with me…mentally, physically (a tooth issue here and there) and spiritually.

My list of people had organically grown to where it took almost 30 minutes to send my texts. This isn’t a look at me, quite the contrary. It’s a look at God moment. For almost 80 weeks I sent out devos to share what I needed. Just so happened we all need the same thing. Marcee and I talked about situations where you think the pastor is talking right to you. Fact is the other 100 people in the church feel the same. We all are broken, when we admit it.

I thank each of you for allowing me to be a part of each day, some of the dings were early, some were late. It was a fun ride, I have every one I have written saved. If the day comes I want to put them in print I can!

My next season is unknown but God won’t let me get too far away.

Prayers, Blessings and love to each of you!

Love,

Paul

How do you finish?

2 Timothy 4:7

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”

This verse popped into my head today, I went down my rabbit hole. Thinking of a marathon racer, and how many miles they have put on their shoes. I immediately thought of a picture I once saw of a gentleman who lived well into his 90’s. The picture was his Bible, his family said he always had it out, every Sunday it made its journey to church. If I or anyone else really wants to get to Heaven, why aren’t we wearing out Bibles? Handing out food to the poor? Praying over our friends?

My nephew ran the Boston Marathon, I remember he had his running crew that all held him accountable. I see that as our church, our Bible study group or your men’s group. Training for any race is difficult and completing one is even harder. If we continue to get stronger spiritually, and seek God more and more… we can say “we fought the good fight and finished the race.” It’s not over we can still start tomorrow if we have been sitting on the couch with our Faith.

Be blessed!

Give thanks not complaints

Philippians 2:14-16

“Do everything without grumbling or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure, “children of God without fault in a warped and crooked generation.” Then you will shine among them like stars in the sky as you hold firmly to the word of life.”

I try to listen to religious subject matter any time I have something on my radio. Why? What I ingest will come out, is the idea. The self inventory question was this, “do you give thanks more than you complain?” I am not a very negative person, I would say but this magnified every complaint I did have the next few days. I acknowledged when I did and tried to find out why I had complained? Was it something that was trivial? Was it something I could’ve done different to change the situation? It’s a challenge to try to be the man God has called me to be. God calls each of us to give thanks, he wants to hear praise. When the devil speaks to mind he always starts in my thoughts, sometimes it goes to my mouth. Whether it be complaining or talking bad of others, I am far from perfect.

Over the next few days join me, see whether it’s positive or negative when you speak. Try to stop yourself if it’s negative, figure out why. Then turn it around and figure out the solution, not the problem.

Be blessed!

Don’t ever stop

1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

“Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.”

How many times have we asked God why he has not answered our prayers for our loved ones? Parents, how many times have we prayed for our children and haven’t seen a change? I heard this statement this weekend and rang as true as anything I have ever heard. “Never stop praying, it may be the only thing holding them up!”

Pray continually, whether it be for addiction, separation, or mental issues. It’s not always going to look like a big light turned on and the world changed. I have this picture in my head of my loved one being pulled by each arm, on one arm is the devil and the other are angels. The only thing that is helping my loved one from being pulled deeper into hell, are my prayers. Next time you pray for a loved one and don’t see the change you want, remember your prayers are the ones keeping them afloat. Pray hard, and pray continually! He will answer, as only God can and leave you in awe and amazement.

Have a blessed week!
