Why do we rejoice? We rejoice because we are filled with joy. When we are overcome with happiness at our circumstances, we are filled with joy. As believers in Jesus Christ, we are filled with joy because not only have we been set free from sin today, we are anticipating our Savior's return. Therefore, our rejoicing will not last just for a day – it will continue evermore. Praise God!

Jesus didn't have to use obscure quotes from other teachers to back up what He said, like the teachers of His time did. Jesus, who was the Word of God, spoke God's own words. He said and did what the Father wanted Him to. His life and words had the ring of truth and a sense of power that reach back through time and call us to His truth. This Jesus, who is our Lord and Teacher, is different. His words have a lot of force. The things He says are true. So we must be driven by His will!

Job learned his position in the cosmos before the All-Powerful God, even though he never understood why he was suffering (Job 38-41). Time moves quite slowly while we are young, particularly when we are anticipating something great. However, the years pass by more swiftly as we age. Nevertheless, despite all of our knowledge and experience, we come to two major realizations: our knowledge is quite limited compared to all that is known, and time is passing by so quickly. These two awakenings prepare us to give our lives and future to our God, who longs to have us come to Him.

Yes, there are people who use God's people and money for their own gain. This is sad because many of God's servants who spread the Word around the world do so with little money or support. God has never said that ministers of the Word will be rich, but he does tell us how important it is to take care of them. Let's use this week to help people who tell us about God's word. Let's also remember that "all good things" means much more than money when it comes to sharing. Let's say prayers for our missionaries, ministers, and teachers. Let's promise to send them specific notes of encouragement on a regular basis so that their ministry will be a blessing not only to us and the Lord, but to them as well.

Dear Lord, thank you for coaching us in our leadership endeavors. We have faith in Your Words and will lead Your people accordingly. In Jesus' name, Amen.

When a king rules with fairness and justice, his kingdom will flourish. If the same king accepts gifts or bribes, his kingdom will fall. We've all observed a person in a leadership position who acted wrongfully. Perhaps a boss did not discipline employees fairly, or a political leader accepted kickbacks for legislation decisions. These corrupt actions lead to their demise. Scripture advises leaders to maintain justice with fair decision-making. As leaders, we must reflect on the mercy and grace God shows to us and lead others in the same fashion.

This order and promise to Joshua are also for us as we move into the new year. We don't know what's ahead, but we do know that God will go with us if we ask him to and try to do what he wants. So, "I will go with you" is not just a promise to hold on to. It's also an order! "Have strength and courage, and don't be afraid or give up." We look forward to the coming year as a chance to serve God, not as something to be afraid of.

It's nice to be invited to rest in Jesus at the end of the year. So, before we start a new year, let's stop and put our hopes, our future, our dreams, and especially our burdens at his feet and let him give us rest.

Praise must not just come from our lips. We must praise God from the bottom of our hearts because of all the good things he has done for us. God deserves praise for being holy, majestic, and powerful, but we have even better reasons to praise him. He has treated us with such kindness.
