Psalm 86:5 (KJV) — "For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all that call upon thee."
There are three Hebrew words tucked into this verse that make it even richer. First, "plenteous" is rav, meaning much, many, abundant, more than enough. It's not a word for a small, limited supply, it describes something that overflows without running dry.
Then there's "mercy," which is chesed, appearing about 246 times in the Old Testament. It means kindness, goodness, and faithfulness, the kind of covenant love that stays loyal no matter what.
And finally, "call" is qara, used nearly 750 times, meaning to call out, cry for help, or call upon by name. It's an invitation to reach out and be heard.
Put it all together and David is telling us that God's kindness toward us is abundant, His faithfulness never wavers, and all it takes is calling out to Him. You don't have to wonder if there's enough grace for you today. There is. All you have to do is call on Him!
