SERMON OUTLINE & DISCUSSION:
TITLE: Blessed Is The Man Who Trusts
TEXT: Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NKJV)
Big Idea: The blessed life is sustained not by circumstances, but by trust in God.
I. Trust Transfers the Weight
Jeremiah 17:7 "Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, And whose hope is the Lord."
II. Trust Produces Stability
Jeremiah 17:8a "For he shall be like a tree planted by the waters, Which spreads out its roots by the river..."
III. Trust Removes Fear.
Jeremiah 17:8b"...and will not fear when heat comes; But its leaf will be green..."
IV. Trust Leads to Fruitfulness.
Jeremiah 17:8c "...and will not be anxious in the year of drought, Nor will cease from yielding fruit."
Discussion Questions
1. According to Jeremiah 17:7-8, what characteristics describe the person who is blessed by God?
2. What imagery does Jeremiah use to describe the person who trusts in the Lord, and why is that imagery significant?
3. What is the difference between believing in God and trusting God? How does Jeremiah 17:7 help us understand that difference?
4. Why do you think Jeremiah emphasizes that the tree does not fear when heat comes rather than saying the heat will never come?
5. What "weight" or burden are you currently carrying that God may be asking you to place in His hands?
6. What practical habits (prayer, Scripture reading, worship, obedience, fellowship, etc.) help deepen your spiritual roots and strengthen your trust in God?
7. In what area of your life do you need to move from fear and anxiety to faith and trust this week, and what specific step will you take to demonstrate that trust?
Key Takeaway: A blessed life is not a trouble-free life; it is a life rooted in God, sustained by trust, strengthened through trials, and fruitful in every season.
