A year ago this wonderful couple still lived in a tent. Today, they live in a beautiful apartment; both have positions they love; Brittany makes dinner at home every night; last night pot roast; they drove the Inasmuch Van to Chicago to pick up the Broadway Christian Church youth luggage when they returned from their summer mission trip; and last night Brittany baked 2 cakes to bring to day shelter today! Not even a full 12 months they went from a tent to all of this. What a Big God Story and another success story that happens when we build community and support around our neighbors. We love them, and are so so proud them! They are such a blessing to Inasmuch/Circles/and our entire community.

We are so proud of Mary Ann for receiving this reward. She is so selfless and always seeking to serve others. She deserves all the recognition for everything she does for our community, yet, she never asks for it. She is an impeccable leader.

Mervin Koehlinger and Mary Ann Mings have been selected by The Lutheran Foundation as the recipients of the 2026 Maxine Rippe Award. This award is given annually to recognize outstanding individuals whose past and present service to the Allen County community exemplifies Christian compassion by alleviating human suffering.

Mary Ann Mings serves as Minister of Outreach at Broadway Christian Church and Director of the Inasmuch Ministry, where she has demonstrated exceptional leadership and compassion in addressing poverty and homelessness in Fort Wayne. With a prior career managing a multi-million-dollar manufacturing facility, she chose to dedicate her skills to serving those in need, guided by a strong sense of faith and purpose.

Over the past four years, Mary Ann has significantly expanded community impact by helping more than 100 individuals secure housing, supporting thousands in crisis, and creating pathways out of generational poverty. She leads the Inasmuch Ministry, which serves over 200 individuals weekly by providing essential resources such as food, clothing, transportation, and financial assistance, while also coordinating dozens of volunteers and partnering with local agencies to deliver services in one accessible location.

Beyond immediate relief, Mary Ann advances long-term solutions through her involvement with Circles of Allen County, equipping individuals with financial, social, and life skills to achieve stability and independence. She also founded Forgotten Stones, an innovative initiative that connects individuals experiencing homelessness, many of whom have income, with affordable housing and has successfully placed over 100 people into homes in 2025 alone.
Known for her deep empathy and belief in the potential of every person, Mary Ann fosters dignity, belonging, and hope. Her ability to inspire others, mobilize resources, and create sustainable change makes her a highly deserving candidate for this award.

Merv Koehlinger has faithfully served Worship Anew, a ministry of Lutheran Ministries Media, for more than 10 years as a dedicated volunteer and current Board member. Contributing both behind the scenes and at the leadership level, he supports weekly productions as a camera operator and provides closed captioning to ensure accessibility for hearing-impaired viewers.
Known for his humility, strong work ethic, and commitment to excellence, Merv consistently goes above and beyond by giving his time, talents, and expertise to advance the organization’s mission of supporting aging adults. He also plays an active role in donor engagement, personally writing letters of appreciation and encouragement.

Beyond Worship Anew, Merv demonstrates a deep commitment to service throughout the community. He donates platelets to the Red Cross every two weeks, volunteers with his church, and supports local programs, including driving for Concordia Lutheran High School.

A retired physics teacher and engineer, Merv combines intellect with compassion, embodying a lifelong dedication to giving back. His selfless service and quiet leadership make him a highly deserving candidate for this award.

So how many of you remember this young man on the streets just a short time ago who said his name was "No Name"? How many of you remember just a short time ago when he lived in the alley behind IAM? How many of you remember just a short time ago when he said, "there ain't no God?" Yesterday he started his new job; with THE DOWNTOWN IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT! If that isn't a Big God Story; what is? And to be blunt, impossible to remain an atheist with this story! Only the Lord could have brought this young man to us; and allowed us to pour into him (even when he was difficult); lead him back to Jesus; and now look at him! He is enrolled at Ivy Tech; in Circles of Allen County; a member of Broadway Christian Church; and a blessing to everyone who meets him. No Name is our DeMarco. Congratulate him!!!
