FORT WAYNE — U.S. Rep. Marlin Stutzman, R-Howe, in conjunction with Purdue University Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana Works, will host a job fair from noon to 3 p.m. July 31 in the university’s International Ballroom at Walb Student Union.
“I am happy to partner once again with Purdue University Fort Wayne and Northeast Indiana Works to help Hoosiers jump-start their careers,” Stutzman said. “Annually, this job fair is the best in the region and will connect over 60 employers with hundreds of employees throughout Indiana’s third district. This year’s event will carry over 1,000 job openings. I encourage anyone looking for an employment opportunity to attend.”
More than 60 employers with a total of more than 1,600 job openings are expected to attend. The employers span a variety of industries, including manufacturing, health care, government, finance, law enforcement and transportation.
The annual job fair is one of the largest in northeast Indiana.
“Since 2003, we have been proud to host on our campus — the hub of public higher education in the region — this opportunity for job seekers and businesses to build connections that help strengthen economic development,” said Chancellor Ron Elsenbaumer, Purdue University Fort Wayne. “From positions that require the kind of advanced training our graduates receive to more traditional entry-level roles, PFW is dedicated to working with its community partners to ensure the unique employment needs of local individuals and entities are being met.”
In addition to the job opportunities presented at the fair, Northeast Indiana Works representatives will be available to assist job seekers with resumes, provide guidance on job interview techniques, and offer information on short-term, certification-based training opportunities.
“While northeast Indiana continues to enjoy a lower-than-average unemployment rate, we’re seeing a slight softening in the labor market compared to last year,” said Edmond O’Neal, president and CEO of Northeast Indiana Works. “That makes this job fair, and the personalized support provided by Northeast Indiana Works, all the more useful. It’s a great opportunity for job seekers to connect with employers, sharpen their skills, and tap into high-growth industries across the region”
Northeast Indiana Works, the region’s nonprofit workforce development organization, oversees the region’s 11 WorkOne centers.
The job fair and WorkOne guidance opportunities are free. For those attending, parking is available in parking garage 2 (P2), which is near Walb Student Union on the PFW campus. A campus map can be accessed at pfw.edu/campus-map.
