After darshan, why do we sit quietly for some time in the temple ?

After darśan, sitting quietly in the temple isn’t just good manners or habit—it’s actually part of the practice. A few layers to it:

1. Let the experience “settle”
Darśan is meant to stir the mind and senses—bells, lamps, mantra, the murti, the crowd. If you rush out immediately, the mind jumps straight back into noise. Sitting quietly lets the bhāva (inner feeling) sink in.

2. From outward seeing to inward seeing
Darśan literally means seeing, but the tradition nudges you from external vision → internal awareness. That short silence is when attention turns inward—almost a soft transition into dhyāna.

3. Manas needs time to become sāttvika
Rituals temporarily quiet rajas and tamas. Remaining still helps the mind stay sattva-pradhāna a bit longer instead of snapping back into restlessness.

4. Absorbing the “kṣetra-śakti” (place energy)
Traditionally, temples are consecrated spaces. Silence is believed to help one receive and retain that subtle influence rather than dissipate it immediately through speech and movement.

5. Gratitude without words
It’s also a moment of niśabda-praṇāma—a wordless offering. Not asking, not thanking verbally—just being present.
