The City of Fort Walton Beach congratulates Temple Beth Shalom, Ft Walton Beach, FL, which will be celebrating its 40th anniversary as a congregation with an event at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 14, 2026, at the synagogue, located at 227 NW Beal Parkway.

Mayor Nic Allegretto read the following proclamation during the May 19 City Council meeting.

“The City of Fort Walton Beach proudly recognizes the 40th anniversary of Temple Beth Shalom as the oldest and only reform synagogue in the city.

Temple Beth Shalom was first established as the Jewish Brotherhood in 1977 and evolved into the Jewish Community Center in 1978 as a way to represent the interests of the Jewish community in the city.

With its recognition as a formal synagogue in 1985, the Temple counts Judge Erwin Fleet and 50 charter families among its founding members.

From financial contributions and community service to organizations such as Sharing and Caring, Opportunity Place, One Hopeful Place, and the Greater Fort Walton Beach Chamber of Commerce, Temple Beth Shalom has enriched our community for decades.

Therefore, I’m honored to a proclaim spiritual celebration in recognition of the 40th anniversary of Temple Beth Shalom in the City of Fort Walton Beach and encourage everyone to celebrate and honor this rich history with sincere gratitude through the gift of fellowship and community awareness.
