Striving Deeper Discussion Question: What Do You Do When Someone Tries to Discourage You?

📖 Ezra 4:4 (NLT) says, “Then the people around them set out to discourage the people of Judah and make them afraid to go on building.”

Sometimes, people may try to discourage us from doing what God has called us to do. They may question us, criticize us, make us doubt ourselves, or even try to make us afraid.

What do you do when someone tries to discourage you from doing God’s work?

Do you keep going? Pray? Step back and seek God for direction? How do you keep other people’s words from stopping you from doing what God has called you to do?

đź’­ Striving Deeper Discussion Question: Should Christians Have Enemies?

📖 Ezra 4:1 (NLT) shows us that God’s people faced opposition when they began rebuilding the temple.

But what does this look like for Christians today?

When we say “enemies,” we mean people who are against us, oppose us, or try to work against us. It doesn’t simply mean someone who doesn’t like us.

Should Christians expect to have enemies or face opposition because of their faith, or should we be able to live at peace with everyone?

Can someone be against us simply because they don’t agree with our faith or the way we live for God? Or should we look at our own actions and ask if we are creating unnecessary problems with people?

What is the difference between facing opposition because we are following God and causing conflict with people ourselves?

Ezra 3:1
(NIV) When the seventh month came and the Israelites had settled in their towns, the people assembled together as one in Jerusalem.

Do you believe Christians need to physically assemble together for unified worship, or can we experience genuine worship and fellowship individually or from home?

If gathering together is necessary, what happens when we come together that cannot happen when we worship alone?

(MSG) Be generous with the different things God gave you, passing them around so all get in on it: if words, let it be God's words; if help, let it be God's hearty help.

What gift has God placed in you that you may have mistaken for “just who you are”? Are you using it for yourself, or allowing God to use it to serve, impact, and bless others? What could change if you fully embraced the purpose behind that gift?

For some, giving is a natural and meaningful part of their faith. For others, it may be something they wrestle with from time to time.

Where do you find yourself when it comes to giving tithes and offerings to your church? Is it something that comes easily to you, or can it be difficult at times?
