Main Post Chapel Fort Riley

Main Post Chapel Fort Riley Fort Riley’s historic Main Post Chapel is located on Barry Avenue, named for Chaplain Thomas W. Barry who served as Post Chaplain in the 1890s.

Chaplain Barry recognized Fort Riley was outgrowing Saint Mary's Chapel and was instrumental in the construction of a new chapel right next door to better serve the religious needs of the soldiers assigned to Fort Riley as part of the Cavalry and Light Artillery School. The cornerstone for Main Post Chapel was laid July 4, 1897 and the building was dedicated in January 1898. Its outward appearance and mission have changed very little over the past 125 years.
