Trying to meet others’ expectations of us can often result in feelings of pressure, stress, and even fear. This may manifest as feeling like we need to be a certain way, socialize with certain people, wear the "right" clothing, have a particular type of job, or choose certain hobbies and hangouts. Living our lives trying to meet standards set by the collective "they" out there ("what will they think") can be exhausting, with even the smallest decisions based on fear of what others will think of us. Ultimately, we become consumed with resentment, frustration, and unhappiness which impacts how we show up in the world. May we celebrate and accept our own authentic uniqueness and strive first to make decisions that will bring us joy, peace, and happiness. This is not selfish, but rather self-aware and the best form of self care. May we find peace in being the unique light we were born to be. Shine on, my illuminated friends. Namaste.
