One beautiful mother in the Bible is Hannah. Her story is found in the book of 1 Samuel and is a wonderful example of faith, prayer, and a mother’s love.
Hannah Prays for a Child
Hannah wanted a child very badly, but she had none. Year after year she prayed to the Lord.
“And she was in bitterness of soul, and prayed unto the Lord, and wept sore.”
— 1 Samuel 1:10 (KJV)
She made a promise to God that if He would give her a son, she would dedicate him back to the Lord.
God heard Hannah’s prayer, and she gave birth to a baby boy named Samuel.
“For this child I prayed; and the Lord hath given me my petition which I asked of him:”

When Samuel was old enough, Hannah faithfully kept her promise and brought him to serve in the house of the Lord.
Every year she visited him and brought him a little coat she had made with love.
“Moreover his mother made him a little coat, and brought it to him from year to year…”
— 1 Samuel 2:19 (KJV)
Hannah’s story reminds us that a praying mother can have a powerful impact for generations.
