One thing I think people underestimate is how discouraging it can be for a church family when people leave because a ministry is not enough.
A children’s worker has been pouring into six kids every Sunday.
Then one family leaves because there are not enough kids.
A youth leader has been trying to build relationships with five teenagers.
Then two families leave for a church with a larger youth group.
A worship leader has been working hard with a small team.
Then a gifted musician leaves because the music is better somewhere else.
Nobody is doing anything wrong by noticing weakness.
But it can still be hard.
Because there are people already there trying to build the thing everyone wishes existed.
Sometimes the most encouraging thing you can do is not point out what is missing.
It is ask, “How can I help?”
