Christ: The Tabernacle
41 Now of the things which we have spoken this is the sum: We have such an high priest, who is set on the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens;
2 A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man.
3 For every high priest is ordained to offer gifts and sacrifices: wherefore it is of necessity that this man have somewhat also to offer.
4 For if he were on earth, he should not be a priest, seeing that there are priests that offer gifts according to the law:
5 Who serve unto the example and shadow of heavenly things, as Moses was admonished of God when he was about to make the tabernacle: for, See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern shewed to thee in the mount.
6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
(Hebrews 8:1-6)
The date of this writing is October, the 20th, 2024. This is the LORD’s Day during what is known as the Feast of Tabernacles. Of this Feast, the Holy Bible says, “Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath. And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days. And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month. Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths: That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God” (Leviticus 23:39-43). The Feast of Tabernacles is the feast for the remembrance of when the LORD led the Children of Israel out of Egypt. The children of Israel lived in tents in the desert, and the LORD gave instructions for them to build a Tabernacle for His presence. Our verses of study state, “(That Christ is) A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched…” I will offer to you that, as with every biblical feast, this is a feast which points to Christ! It is all about the LORD Jesus! One great idea with the Exodus and the Feast of Tabernacles, is that, while they dwelt in their tabernacles, the LORD presence was there with them. While in the New Testament, as our verses of study state, “(we have a) better covenant, which was established upon better promises.” Therefore, let us look into the idea of the Feast of Tabernacles as it pertains to Christ!
One of the greatest thoughts in Christianity is the idea that we are not alone in this world. It is good to know we have people in this world which lets us know we are not alone, but even to a greater point, it is good to know the LORD God all mighty is with us! We are told “God with us” is a name of Christ. The angel of the LORD told Joesph about the woman, Mary, to whom he would marry, “And she shall bring forth a son, and thou shalt call his name JESUS: for he shall save his people from their sins. Now all this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Behold, a virgin shall be with child, and shall bring forth a son, and they shall call his name Emmanuel, which being interpreted is, God with us” (Matthew 1:21-23). His name will be Jesus, but He can also be called God WITH us.
As great as it is to know Christ is God with us, we are told it is an even deeper connection through Christ after the giving of the Holy Ghost. We should also understand that Christ is God IN us! The Holy Bible says, “Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world” (1 John 4:4). In this verse, it is shown that Christ is God in you! In like manner, the Holy Bible, also, says, “And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father” (Galatians 4:6). Yes, Christ is literally in us! Holy Bible says, “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? (1 Corinthians 6:19). This shows us we are the Temple of God! Furthermore, it shows us the LORD Jesus’ presence in us is what makes us the Temple of God.
Oh, how beautiful it is to have this promised presence of Christ. Even so, one must see how we are to start and how we are to finish it. When we look back at Leviticus 23:39-43 (quoted above) we see how the Feast started, “on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.” The question becomes: how does this play into our lives in modern Christianity? When the LORD instituted the Sabbath, He said, “Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it” (Exodus 20:8-11). We see it was a remembrance of the fact the LORD rested on the seventh day. We are told more in depth of what this means in the New Testament. The Holy Bible says, “There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his” (Hebrews 4:9-10). Basically, the Sabbath is a repentance from work! It is a trust in God’s finished work! The LORD Jesus preached repentance! The Holy Bible says, “From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand” (Matthew 4:17). Repent of your sins, dear reader, trust the finished work of Christ, and become the Tabernacle of God!
