📖 Sermon Notes | Romans 4:13–25

What makes someone part of God's family?

In Romans 4, St. Paul argues that God's covenant with Abraham was never ultimately based on rituals, customs, or ethnicity. It was based on faith.

Abraham trusted God's promise when all the evidence suggested the promise could never be fulfilled. His faith rested not in circumstances, but in God's character.

Paul reminds us that the same is true for Christians today. We are brought into God's covenant family through faith in Jesus Christ—the One who was delivered up for our sins and raised for our justification.

This passage also reminds us that what united Jews and Gentiles in the first-century Church is the same thing that unites Christians today: faith in Christ.

As you reflect on this week's sermon, consider:

• What promises of God do you find hardest to trust?
• How does Christ's resurrection strengthen your faith?
• What does it mean that God's family is united by faith rather than background, culture, or tradition?

Need a Sunday sermon refresher? 📝

This past Trinity Sunday, we learned about how the doctrine of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit helps us resist idolatry. Matthew 28 reveals Jesus' divine authority and calls us, as his disciples, to teach others and baptize them in the name of the Holy Trinity.

🤔This week, let's ask ourselves: What am I trusting to give me security, meaning, or identity that should belong to God alone?

❓✅What do you think our culture treats as the "ultimate authority" that we as Christians should be careful not to idolize? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments ⬇

When I was young, My dad and his friend did a children’s sermon that I still remember to this day. He asked us kids who he was. He asked us who his friend was. When we answered, they held up a picture of Jesus in front of their faces and asked us again who they were. They used that visual to explain what Jesus meant when he talked about the least of these, that every person we meet is Jesus underneath.

If we truly internalized this belief, how would it change the way we interact, connect, think of or feel about each person we see?

Life is fleeting and one day we will see beyond the dim mirror and know just what it means to treat everyone as if they were Jesus underneath. But Jesus calls us to start practicing that now.

Life moves so quickly that we sometimes forget how precious people really are. One day, the conversations, the hugs, the late-night talks, and the ordinary moments we take for granted become the memories we wish we could hold onto a little longer. 🙏

So love deeply. Forgive quickly. Speak kindly. And never miss an opportunity to let someone know they matter. If your heart needs encouragement and peace, our devotionals and calming worship playlists are designed to help you slow down, reconnect with God, and cherish what truly matters through scripture, prayer, worship, and mindful reflection. And if this ministry encourages you, monthly giving helps us continue creating daily faith-filled content, devotionals, worship, and peaceful resources for hearts around the world. A prayer for those you love who are struggling.

This is a spin on an intercessory prayer from Praying in Color. Since our last Crafting with Jesus meet up, I’ve found myself gravitating toward prayer on paper. I’m looking forward to our next meet up on June 6th, but in the meantime, pray this with me for those who are hurting, for those in our congregation who are going through hardship, and yourself too ❤️ a prayer for wholeness is one we could all use.

God has a way of turning broken places into holy ground. The pain you survived. The prayers you cried through. The seasons that almost broke you. None of it was wasted. Sometimes the very place where we felt shattered becomes the place where compassion, wisdom, faith, and purpose begin to grow. Your story may carry wounds… but it also carries proof of God’s grace. Mindfulness is learning to stop hiding our brokenness and instead allowing God to gently restore what the world tried to destroy. 🙌

Healing rarely happens all at once. But little by little, God rebuilds hearts with tenderness and purpose. If your soul has been longing for peace, healing, and deeper connection with God, our devotionals and worship playlists were created to help you slow down, reflect, pray, and rest in His presence through every season of life. And to everyone who supports this ministry through monthly giving — thank you. Your generosity helps us continue creating Christ-centered encouragement, peaceful worship resources, devotionals, and daily reminders of hope for people all around the world. You can explore our devotionals, worship playlists, and support this ministry through the link in our bio. 💛

Ascension Sunday is a particularly important day in the church, for more reasons than you might think. Need a refresher? Here are Sunday's sermon notes.

In teaching the children's church lesson this week, I asked the kiddos what they think it will look like when Jesus reigns as King over Earth and Heaven. That's a great question for us adults to ask ourselves as well. Food for thought!
