📖 Sermon Notes | Romans 4:13–25
What makes someone part of God's family?
In Romans 4, St. Paul argues that God's covenant with Abraham was never ultimately based on rituals, customs, or ethnicity. It was based on faith.
Abraham trusted God's promise when all the evidence suggested the promise could never be fulfilled. His faith rested not in circumstances, but in God's character.
Paul reminds us that the same is true for Christians today. We are brought into God's covenant family through faith in Jesus Christ—the One who was delivered up for our sins and raised for our justification.
This passage also reminds us that what united Jews and Gentiles in the first-century Church is the same thing that unites Christians today: faith in Christ.
As you reflect on this week's sermon, consider:
• What promises of God do you find hardest to trust?
• How does Christ's resurrection strengthen your faith?
• What does it mean that God's family is united by faith rather than background, culture, or tradition?
