January 1st is a Holy Day of Obligation for the Solemnity of Mary, Mother of God.

"The Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God is celebrated on January 1st, the final day of the Christmas octave and a Holy Day of Obligation. The origin of this feast goes back to the 7th century in the Latin Church and honors Mary as the mother of Jesus Christ, God incarnate, the Second Person of the Holy Trinity. The 8th day was also when Joseph and Mary brought Christ to be circumcised in the temple, and when he was given the name 'Jesus' which means 'God Saves'." (The Morning Offering Email)

Calling all volunteers! We are looking for your help to decorate Sts. Peter & Paul Church for Christmas. Decorating will take place either on Monday night (12/22) or Tuesday night (12/23). Help is needed in bringing in and setting up the Christmas trees, the Nativity Creche, placing the window decorations & displaying the poinsettias. We could use a few strong volunteers - men or high school boys - to help carry the pre-lit trees & nativity creche from storage into the church. If you are interested in lending a hand, contact Jean Watercutter.
