On Saturday, October 25, 2025, we are pleased to welcome Sheila Sasson for a Torah-side chat with Rabbi Strom. Sheila is an emissary from Sharsheret, the Jewish organization that provides support, education, and genetic counseling to those faced with, or at increased genetic risk of, breast cancer and ovarian cancer. We will hear about the sacred work Sharsheret does and how we can get involved to help save lives.

Beth Gerson, who has been leading writing groups for many years, is starting a legacy writing group here at the synagogue. All writers, new and seasoned, are invited and encouraged to join the group to craft memories into a precious legacy. The next session will take place at the synagogue on Monday, August 4 at 2PM, and then pretty much every two weeks thereafter through the end of the year.

We have rescheduled our Yom HaShoah commemoration for the Shabbat morning of July 12th. Please join us for Rabbi Strom's Torah-side chat with Dr. Victor Borden, who will relate his parent's story of surviving Jewish persecution in Poland under N**i occupation and in the Soviet Union under Stalin. Beth Gerson and David Isaak will also join the conversation to tell us about the virtual museum tour that they are developing to extend the reach of the Fort Lee Holocaust Museum beyond the walls of the synagogue.

On Sunday, June 1, 2025, we’ll begin our celebration of Shavuot when we learn that Fathers Know Best. No, we’re not going to watch a TV show, but rather learn from Pirkei Avot, or the Wisdom of our Fathers, which points us toward a practical, everyday living of Jewish values and teachings. Please join us on Sunday at 11AM for bagels, blintzes, and brilliance and on Monday and Tuesday at 10AM for our holiday services.

We had a wonderful time celebrating Harry Speiser on the eve of his 105th birthday!

In case you missed it, you can still hear Harry's words of wisdom on our website:

https://www.cbiotp.org/birthdays/harry.html

Harry's energy, focus, enthusiasm, and storytelling belie his triple digit age. During the interview, Harry shared his recipe for a long and happy life, which includes learning from all experiences, keeping an open mind, and not going to sleep angry, among several other ingredients.

Please share this one-of-a-kind video with your family and friends, so they can also meet this incredible man!

Have you ever wondered why we recite certain prayers during our services and not others or why do we say some prayers early in the service and others towards the end? Well, now is your chance to find out why. Starting on Monday, April 28th, Rabbi Strom will teach a two-part Zoom class to unravel the mysteries of the service structure. Please join us on Monday, April 28th and Monday, May 5th at 7:30PM to learn about our services and find additional meaning in them.

This past Shabbat, we welcomed Rachel Kahn, Director of Northern New Jersey & Rockland County for the Jewish National Fund (JNF) to the synagogue for a Torah-side chat with Rabbi Strom. It wan an interesting and eye-opening conversation and many of us were surprised to hear how much more the JNF does than plant trees.

This evening, at 7:30PM, Rabbi Strom will introduce the next bout on the card. Join us for the smackdown between God and Aaron's sons, Nadav & Avihu, who thought they were special, but when they messed around in the Mishkan, they found out otherwise, and instantly! We’ll explore what the brothers did to raise the ire of the Holy One and why God struck them down so viciously. It should be another lively study and conversation, so get your popcorn ready and join us ringside over Zoom!
