The Fruit Speaks Louder Than The Fight
1/18/26
Matt 7:16-20: “You can identify them by their fruit, that is, by the way they act. Can you pick grapes from thornbushes, or figs from thistles? 17 A good tree produces good fruit, and a bad tree produces bad fruit. 18 A good tree can't produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can't produce good fruit. 19 So every tree that does not produce good fruit is chopped down and thrown into the fire. 20 Yes, just as you can identify a tree by its fruit, so you can identify people by their actions.” NLT
“The fruit speaks louder than the fight.” I heard this statement recently and it caught my attention. Now, I’ll start by being the first one to admit that I don’t always respond to the situations of life in a positive manner, but I’ve learned over the years and a series of situations and circumstances.
This isn’t to say there aren’t times when we must fight, spiritually speaking, but others around us will still see our fruit in the midst of the fight, good or bad. In this passage we must understand that they were battling the religious spirits of the day, the law givers. Their fruit did not match their message. Jesus, in this passage, is teaching them that they can identify the character of a person by their fruit.
What’s my purpose in this? Not to cause you to start evaluating others by their fruit but to encourage you and I to evaluate ourselves by our fruit. How do we react when life doesn’t go our way? How do we respond when others do us wrong? Does your fruit, your actions, speak louder than your fight?
Your fight can be encouraging to others, as you battle the things that the enemy throws at you. Your fruit, however, will speak louder. How you hold yourself throughout it will be a testimony to others of the One who lives within you.
