Fort Defiance church of Christ

Fort Defiance church of Christ A small congregation with a big heart!!! The church is made up entirely of new Christians. In the 2000 census nearly 300,000 people claimed Navajo ancestry.

Sunday Morning Bible Study - 10am
Sunday Morning Worship - 11am
Sunday Evening Bible Study - 6pm

Wednesday Night Bible Study - 6pm
Friday Night Bible Study - 6pm

The church in Fort Defiance is very young spiritually and is in need of sound instruction and constant encouragement. The average attendance on a Sunday morning is around 25-35 adults.Terry Laurence and Cory Landolt are the current mini

sters at Fort Defiance. There is no Eldership or deacons serving this congregation, at the moment. The largest efforts of the church so far have been to bring new members in and to train up men to preach, teach and to lead effectively. The small town of Fort Defiance is located in the northeastern of the Navajo Indian Reservation. The Navajo, or Dineh, are the second largest Native American tribe in North America. The Navajo Nation (in Northern Arizona, Southern Utah, and Northwestern New Mexico) is the largest Indian Reservation in the United States covering 26,000 square miles. That makes it larger than the state of West Virginia to give you some perspective.

At the Fort Defiance Church of Christ, our outreach ministry is about meeting people where they are and caring for both physical and spiritual needs. During these cold winter nights, we’re thankful for community resources like the Gallup Emergency Warming Shelter that help keep our neighbors safe and warm.

Please take a moment to review this flyer and share it with anyone who may need it. A simple share can help ensure no one has to face the cold alone.

COAT DRIVE EVENT 2025
Back in September, I shared a flyer for a coat drive we were preparing for in October, and with temperatures dropping and the impact of that day becoming even more evident, this feels like the perfect time to reflect and say thank you.

We are incredibly grateful to the Arnold church of Christ for partnering with the Fort Defiance church of Christ and helping make this coat drive such a blessing to our community.

This event was planned months in advance, allowing time to spread the word and prepare. Flyers were created and distributed ahead of time, and my 10-year-old daughter was especially excited to be involved, handing out flyers and talking with parents about the upcoming event.

On the day of the event, preparations began early with canopies being set up and racks of coats organized underneath—sizes ranging from children to adults. The layout was thoughtfully planned, and it was inspiring to see how smoothly everything came together. Activities were available for all ages, with games for both children and adults, and even a volleyball net set up for the kids. On the other side of the parking lot, grills were going as hamburgers and hot dogs were prepared and served.

By the end of the day, over 250 coats had been given out, bibles were given to all who would take one, more than 500 hamburgers and hot dogs were served, and we were blessed with about a dozen Bible studies along with many requests for future studies. The turnout and response spoke volumes about the need and the heart of everyone involved.

We sincerely thank the Arnold Church of Christ for their generosity, planning, and hard work. This event was a powerful example of what can be accomplished when churches come together to serve with love and purpose.

What a beautiful weekend it turned out to be. I’m so grateful for the volunteers who continue to show up with love and compassion through the Fort Defiance church of Christ’s Burrito Project. Serving our unhoused neighbors is always meaningful, but it becomes even more important as the weather starts to turn cold.

This weekend we were able to share breakfast burritos, oatmeal, assorted fruit, and hot drinks—along with a sack lunch for the road. It’s amazing how something as simple as a warm meal can bring comfort and connection.

A huge thank-you to everyone who has donated coats, gloves, and beanies. Those items are truly becoming essentials right now, and your generosity is making a real difference. The warmth we feel after serving goes far beyond the food—it’s a reminder of what love in action really looks like. ❤️❤️❤️

If you’re looking for a way to help, we’re always grateful for volunteers and donations of warm clothing as the colder months approach. Every small act of kindness truly matters.

🌿 A Note of Thanks and Reflection 🌿
I want to take a moment to apologize for not posting this sooner. Time truly got away from me with the many activities I’ve been involved in lately. This isn’t an excuse—just a simple acknowledgment that I should have shared this blessing earlier.

Some time ago, I received a call from Eric, a dear brother in Christ who often attends our summer Bible camps. He mentioned that he had scheduled one too many groups for the summer and asked if we could use some extra helping hands. I gladly said yes—and I’m so thankful I did!

The group that came from Virginia, turned out to be one of the most dedicated and hardworking teams I’ve ever seen. Their energy, skill, and servant hearts were such a blessing.

They framed walls, hung drywall, rerouted electrical wiring, relocated light fixtures, ran new lines for exterior lights, and even dug holes and poured concrete for the gates we’ll be installing soon.
What I thought would be a challenging and complicated job turned into a time of joy and amazement. This group made everything look simple through teamwork, faith, and a shared desire to serve.

To show my appreciation for everyone’s dedication and hard work, I organized a group outing to Canyon de Chelly National Park. It was a wonderful way to celebrate our accomplishments together and enjoy some well-deserved time outdoors.

To Mr. Washington and the entire crew—thank you for your incredible work and the spirit you brought with you. You reminded us all what it means to serve wholeheartedly in the name of Christ. 🙏
“And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men.” — Colossians 3:23

🙏 Burrito Outreach Follow-Up – A Day of Blessing 🙏

Today’s Burrito Outreach Project went wonderfully! And the weather was perfect. We want to give a heartfelt thank you to all the volunteers who came out to help—especially those who traveled from other communities, towns and states to join us. Your willingness to serve made a real difference.

It was inspiring to see new volunteers step in with such enthusiasm. Some shared how meaningful and uplifting this outreach was, and we couldn’t agree more! The Fort Defiance Church of Christ is truly blessed to be part of a ministry that not only serves those in need but also strengthens the hearts of everyone involved.

I wasn’t able to take many pictures today, but I’ll be sharing the ones that were forwarded to me soon.

We continue to welcome anyone who wants to join us—to roll up your sleeves, share a smile, and experience the love of God in action. Every burrito, every prayer, and every act of kindness is a reflection of Christ’s love for all.

“Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” — 1 John 3:18 (KJV)

🌯 Community Outreach – Serving with the Love of Christ 🌯

The Fort Defiance Church of Christ is rolling burritos tonight in preparation for our outreach to the un-housed this Saturday, November 15, 2025, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 noon.

We’ll be serving in Window Rock, at the main junction across from the flea market (opposite corner).

Everyone is welcome to stop by, say hello, and share a moment of fellowship. We also welcome donations—whether it’s food items, supplies and encouragement.

This effort is done out of the love of Christ, who calls us to serve our neighbors with compassion and kindness. As Jesus said, “Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.” — Matthew 25:40 (KJV)

Come be a part of sharing God’s love in action. ❤️
