Raise the Roof!
Last weekend 7 of our members joined a Habitat crew building a house at the new Bloom subdivision in Fort Collins. With expert supervision from Habitat builders, we passed roof trusses up from the ground to the 2nd story roof without the aid of machines. It was amazing to see how quickly all the roof trusses were placed - that part was done in about an hour. It was quite a day!

Mission Trip!!
Last Sunday three of our members reported on a mission trip they took in May. Twelve people from our Presbytery (a group of churches in our region) went to the YPM Institute, a new and growing university on the Yucatan Peninsula. They built walls in a new building, conducted sewing classes, and shared fellowship with locals. Yucatan Peninsula Mission (YPM) runs a high school and university, and provides outreach to people in the area, including clean water. You can learn more about YPM here:

This has become an annual event at Westminster, and some of our people are getting very good at concrete block construction!

HOLY WEEK!
We have followed our Lenten journey, traveling with Jesus through his ministry. Join us in Holy Week as we experience Christ’s story.

Maundy Thursday, April 2nd at 7:00 PM (Westminster sanctuary)
A simple service of remembrance, song, and communion. We will recall Jesus’ command to love one another, remembering that love as it is shared with us, his disciples.

Good Friday Noon Service, April 3rd at 12:00 PM (Westminster sanctuary)
A somber, reflective service as we join Jesus on Calvary’s hill. We will remember the pain and agony of Jesus’ death. We relive the sadness of this moment as we hold out eternal hope for more.

Easter Sunday, April 20th at 10:00 AM (Westminster sanctuary)
Finally, we celebrate the resurrection!!
Jesus Christ has overcome death! Christ walks with us again!
Christ is Risen, Christ is Risen Indeed!

Palm Sunday

Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey, surrounded by people waving palms and shouting "Hosanna! Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!" Mark 11:9b

After the hosannas, Jesus went to the temple,
"Then he entered Jerusalem and went into the temple, and when he had looked around at everything, as it was already late, he went out to Bethany with the twelve." Mark 11:11

Jesus knew what was coming. Perhaps he wanted to look around one more time, before it all started happening, one last moment of peace before the storm of holy week.

Children and Jesus
Sunday we read Matthew 19:13-15
"People brought children to Jesus, for him to place his hands on them and pray, but the disciples scolded those people. Jesus said 'Let the children come to me.... because the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these'"

The disciples think kids are a distraction, but Jesus points out that they belong to God's kingdom. He later points out that anyone who does not enter God's kingdom like a child, won't enter it at all. Little kids have sincerity and humility. When they are excited about something, they are really excited. Kids also know the world is big and they are small, so they need a parent, a grownup, or a friend for help. God wants that in us too.

Feeding the 5000 (from Mark 6: 32-44)

Jesus has been teaching a crowd of about 5000, and it gets late, toward dinner time. The disciples ask Jesus to send the people to find food in the neighboring villages. Jesus tells them "You feed them." The disciples object, saying it would take 8 months' wages to feed the crowd. Jesus asks "How much bread do you have?"
They look and find five loaves and two fish. Jesus has everyone sit down, blesses the loaves and fish, and proceeds to feed everyone. Mark reports that twelve baskets of food were left over. This sounds impossible to us, but it's right there in Mark's gospel. Jesus was the Son of God, after all. With God, the impossible becomes possible.
You may wonder what this means. After all, none of us has ever blessed food and had it multiply to feed thousands. But together we can feed a lot of people. Remember, you are not expected to feed five thousand by yourself, but you are called to show up with five loaves and two fish.

Our artwork this week comes from Rev. Lauren Wright Pittman at SanctifiedArt.org. Notice the twelve baskets around the edges!

Great faith and great love.
Luke 7:36-50
In Luke 7 Jesus goes to have dinner with a Pharisee named Simon. Tradition required that guests be met with a kiss and foot washing. That didn't happen. But then, a woman who was a "sinner" comes in uninvited. She's crying, and she washes Jesus' feet with her tears and dries them with her hair. Then she anoints his feet with expensive ointment. We don't know what her sins were (at least not exactly), but she showed great love and faith. She believed in Him, and Jesus forgave her sins. It's quite a story. Read the whole thing in Luke 7:36-50. Showing love is the key, it's a marker of faith.

LENT!
So lent started on Wednesday, and this Sunday we read about the wedding in Cana, where Jesus turned water into wine. It seems to be an unlikely miracle, since Jesus did it at his mother's request. But it is worth reading (John 2:1-11). And you have to wonder what the servant thought when he tasted the wine, which started as water. Come Sunday and hear more about it.

PS> The painting imagines the servants' surprise when he tastes the wine. It's from our friends at sanctifiedart.org
