As we continued our hopping on Feb. 28, 2026 in Daviess County, Indiana, we found Crab Family Cemetery. It was far off the road just inside a line of trees. We were able to use the edge of a farmer's field to make the trek there easily. I ran ahead of the group to get their approach to this tiny three-stoned cemetery. We found Jacob Crab's headstone leaning against a tree along with an illegible one. We also discovered a stone that was half buried that appeared to just be a marker for a grave as the stone was still in its natural form with no cuts or writing.

Without a doubt Veale Cemetery, even though very small, was one of my favorite hops. One reason was because it was easy to take good pictures due to the tiny white flowers, beautiful sky with great clouds, the long distance we had to walk through the field to reach it, the wrought iron fence surrounding it and the small little woods it sat in. Some of the headstones were difficult to read, but we did see a few from the Veale family as well as one for Mary Wise. This Daviess County, Indiana graveyard was a huge win for the Hoppers on this fantastic Feb. 28, 2026 day. Yay Hoppers!!!!

Not sure why I took two photos of my sister with the white board, but I'm sure there was a reason. Old Bethel Cemetery in Daviess County, Indiana was tucked inside a rather thin woods. There was something interesting about the waviness of the trees in this graveyard. We found several headstones for the Horrall family and one that listed several family members including the number of children each had. We also found an old illegible headstone that had a metal military plaque in front of it with a rather large American flag. Another great find for the Hoppers on this February 28, 2026 day.

As soon as we spotted the tiny clump of trees in the field, we knew we had found Maple Valley Switch Cemetery in Daviess County, Indiana. This beautiful blue-sky Feb. 28, 2026 day could not have been better. Once we arrived at the fenced-in tiny gravesite, we were somewhat disappointed to see almost all of the headstones stacked against each other. The disappointment quickly vanished when we noticed the beautiful new headstone marker that boasted the cemetery name and all who were buried there. We placed a few of the broken stones together to get a couple of pictures, but still considered this hop a great find for us Hoppers.

We began our 2026 hopping in Daviess County, Indiana on February 28 in Colbert Cemetery. The deep blue sky was the perfect backdrop for the fantastic entrance sign that greeted us while it also held an American flag. Most of the headstones were for the Colbert family, but we found a few others including Cochrane, Riche and a Colbert maiden name of Hopewell. We felt like we started our season off with a great hop.

On our final hop in 2025, we remained in Spencer County, Indiana on November 19th. On a cute very rounded plot of land we found Huffman Cemetery. There were some fantastic old headstones here that longed for the sun to dry up the darkened mildew that sat on nearly every one. Some of the names we saw included Lynch, Hess, Reynolds, McKim, Minor and of course Huffman. We would not hop again until March of 2026. Those posts will begin next week. As always, we appreciate all of our followers and encourage sharing our posts to continue to grow the cemetery hopping community.

On April 19, 2025 we continued our hopping in Spencer County, Indiana. We found two more small graveyards that were not in the best shape. The first was Osborne/Greathouse Cemetery. This tiny four or five headstone cemetery was on a very nice man's property, and he kindly took the time to walk us straight to it in a woods just off his side yard. The second was Wright Cemetery, and every headstone in it was lying flat and almost covered with dirt and grass. All of the stones were a nice bright white. With a lot of work this tiny graveyard could really be beautiful. We, however, did not have the tools or time to do it on that day. Maybe we will get back there with the right tools to fix it. No matter what shape a cemetery is in, we always respect the dead who have been buried there and, we always enjoy hopping any cemetery.

We had to drive up a very steep and slippery gravel road to reach McDaniel Cemetery on Nov. 19, 2025. Our van kept sliding sideways, and we nearly abandoned the pursuit. But we hoppers kept on going and made it to the graveyard. We found some beautiful headstones here with an entrance stone erected by the great, great, great granddaughter of James McDaniel Jr. The first 14 photos are McDaniel.
The rest are from HUFF CEMETERY, also in Spencer County. Huff was even more difficult to reach. The road to the main entrance was closed. We had to drive to the backside of the cemetery. Then we walked through a ditch with a steep slope down to the water and a very steep slope back up to reach the stones. We never saw the "supposed" entrance which is shown on FindaGrave. We were stunned by the outstanding stones in Huff, as it is located in the middle of nowhere. These were two great hops for us in Spencer County, Indiana.

Two more Spencer County, Indiana cemeteries that we hopped on November 19, 2025 were Rust Cemetery and Purcell Cemetery. They were about 9 minutes apart which made it easy for us hoppers to navigate. Rust sat beside a nice barn and had a cute fence protecting it. It had mostly Rust family members with some magnificent headstones. Purcell had several from the military and one for Carol Lee Langston Land whose headstone read, "All Good Things". We loved that.
