Our catholic school is named after San José Sanchez del Río...

Today is the feast of San José Sánchez del Río, the cristero boy who died a martyr.

San José Sánchez del Río was tortured and killed on February 10, 1928, at the age of 14, by Calles government officials because he refused to renounce his faith.

He was cut off the soles of his feet and was led barefoot to his grave. While walking, José Luis prayed and shouted "Long live Christ the King and the Virgin of Guadalupe!"

Before his grave he was hung on a tree and stabbed. One of the executioners lowered him and asked him what message he gave his parents. The boy replied: "May Christ the King live and we will see each other in heaven." Faced with this response, the man shot him in the temple and killed him.
