The journey of faith began in the 1880’s when the Presbyterian missionary serving in Miles City also held services in Forsyth. The church in Forsyth was organized in 1903 with seven members and services were held in the Rosebud County courthouse until a proper church could be built. The cornerstone for the first church was laid in 1903 at the present site and was dedicated in 1906. The manse was c

ompleted in 1910. Unfortunately, the original church burned on December 14, 1919. Our present brick church, designed by prominent Chicago architect Howard Van Doran Shaw, opened for services in 1920 at a cost of about $43,700. The Presbyterian and Methodist Churches joined into a federation in 1950 with services in the Presbyterian Church. In 1967 the Articles of Incorporation were filed again under the name of The United Presbyterian Church. Because of the historic significance, the Federated Church name was retained.
