DAY 18
Hebrews 4:15-16 “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are–yet he did not sin. Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” (NIV)
Life can be filled with all kinds of trials and tribulations that can leave us in a state of confusion and despair. We are often hit with disappointments in life that can be very debilitating. When those times come when we are hit with adversity in this life, it is so very comforting to know that our great High Priest has endured pain and despair just like we have. Because of this, we are then able to approach God’s throne of grace where we can receive the strength we need to keep moving forward.
It is impossible to try to make it through this life without the grace that God provides for us in order to make it. We are helpless and when we rely on our own ability to pull ourselves through, we will ultimately always fail. We have often heard the cliché that tells us to “pull ourselves up by our bootstraps” but that is not God’s will for our lives. Nowhere in scripture does God tell us that, instead you hear God say to trust in Him with all our heart, then he provides the grace we need in our weaknesses.
PRAYER: God, I thank you for your endless grace! Thank you for inviting me into your throne room anytime and for any reason, why because you love us so much. Thank you for your grace and mercy in our times of weakness. And we thank you so much for making us righteous through the blood of Jesus. I trust, God that you will give me everything I need, when I need it. In Jesus name, Amen.
Journal Question: We often hear cliches like pull yourself up by your bootstraps and God never puts on us more than we can bear, if that is true, why do we need grace and mercy in our time of need if we can do it ourselves?
