Pastor's message on Sunday was about Christian rest, understanding the True Vine and how He works, and our purpose as the branches abiding in HIM.
Here's an article that I felt went along with that.

https://www.facebook.com/share/p/18nmRgdMZR/

"Yes, we can abide in Jesus when the house is calm and when all seems well in our world. But we can also abide in Jesus when we spill coffee on our clothes, when we’re running late for the next meeting, or when we run out of gas on the way to school drop-off.

We can abide in Him when our house feels too small for our growing family, when a friend disappoints us, or when a storm floods the basement.

We can abide in Him when our toddlers seem bent on disobedience, when we feel stuck in a conflict with our spouse, or when our attitudes seem fixed in complain mode.

Firmly rooted in Jesus’ love and His Word, we continue to obey Him right in the middle of the chaos. Right here, right now, we can—and must—abide in Jesus. Abiding in Him might not make our lives calm, but it will do something even better: it will fill us with His joy (John 15:11)."

From this morning’s reading

2 Thessalonians 1:4,5
Therefore, among God’s churches we boast about your perseverance and faith in all the persecutions and trials you are enduring. All this is evidence that God’s judgment is right, and as a result you will be counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which you are suffering.

As we dedicate our lives to God, we will experience times of trial and suffering. This is because we are trying to be His light in a broken and dark world. These struggles can provide us with growth and strengthen us. They will build our character and provide us ways to help others who are going through similar struggles. God can use our struggles and suffering for our good and His glory. As we take a stand for Christ, we are showing that we are worthy of God’s kingdom.

From this morning’s reading

1 Thessalonians 5:23
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul, and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The spirit, soul, and body are not to be thought of as three separate parts of a person, but as the whole being of a person. We must let God be involved in every part of our lives. We can’t separate our spiritual life from everything else. We must let God control all of us, not just a “religious” part of us.

From this morning’s reading

1 Thessalonians 5:14
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.

These are good instructions for us to follow. But how are we to tell the difference between those who are doing nothing out of laziness, and those who are doing nothing out of timidity or fear of judgement. One of the keys to ministry is sensitivity. We need to spend time with people, get to know them, sense the condition of each person and offer the appropriate help for each situation. This is where patience comes in. You can’t effectively help someone until you know their situation. It’s like the saying, “ You can’t apply the medicine until you know where the wound is.”

From this morning’s reading

Luke 17:11-14
While traveling to Jerusalem, He passed between Samaria and Galilee. As He entered a village, 10 men with serious skin diseases met Him. They stood at a distance and raised their voices, saying, “Jesus, Master, have mercy on us!” When He saw them , He told them, “Go and show yourselves to the priests.” And while they were going, they were healed.

Do you have this kind of faith? All Jesus did was tell them to go and show themselves to the priests. This was what a l***r was to do to be declared clean. They hadn’t been healed yet, but they went anyway, and while they were on their way, they were healed. They responded to Jesus in faith. Is your trust in God so strong that you act on what He says even before you see evidence that it is going to work?

From this morning’s reading

Luke 16:13
“No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and money.”

Jesus is telling us that money can easily take God’s place in our lives. It can become our master, our idol. There are ways to tell if you are a slave to money. Do you think about it and worry about it all the time? Do you give up things you should be doing or would like to do just to make more of it? Is it hard for you to give it away, even for a good cause? Money can be a deceptive master, making you think you have control and power, but your earthly fortune could be lost in an instant. How much better it would be to let God be your Master. It would give you peace of mind, security and build up rewards in heaven that will last for eternity.

From this morning’s reading

Romans 6:10,11
The death He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life He lives, He lives to God. In the same way, count yourself dead to sin but alive to God in Jesus Christ.

If we count ourselves dead to sin, we can now regard our old nature as unresponsive to sin. We will no longer live by our old desires. Now we consider ourselves to be what God made us to be. We have a new start. The Holy Spirit now dwells within us, and will help us in our daily lives to be all the God has declared us to be.

From this morning’s reading

Ezekiel 1:27,28
I saw that what appeared to be His waist up He looked like glowing metal, as if full of fire, and that from there down He looked like fire; and brilliant light surrounded Him. Like the appearance of a rainbow in the clouds on a rainy day, so was the radiance around Him. This was the appearance of the likeness of the glory of God. When I saw it, I fell facedown, and I heard the voice of One speaking.

When the glory of the Lord appeared to Ezekiel, he fell facedown, he was overwhelmed by the holiness of God, recognizing his own insignificance, his sinfulness. Every one of us will eventually do the same. We will fall before God, either out of reverence for Him, or for fear of his judgement. When that day comes, how will respond based on the way you are living your life today?

From this morning’s reading

Psalm 119:125
I am your servant; give me discernment that I may understand your statutes.

The writer wisely asked God for discernment. When we apply Scripture to our daily lives, it helps us understand where we need help in our daily tasks and with things that pop up during the day. We need the desire to apply Scripture where we need help. With discernment, Scripture goes to work in the areas where we need it the most. As you read God’s Word, be aware of the lessons, examples, or commands that you can put into practice in your daily lives.
