The "Southern Strategy" Then and Now

In 1968, Richard Nixon used a “Southern Strategy” to win the presidential election. The Southern Strategy consisted of recruiting southern white voters by appealing to racist fears and ignoring black voters.

In the Southern Strategy, Republican candidates supported “states’ rights” and “law and order.” “State’s Rights” told southern voters that Republicans would not support black interests, such as civil rights and integration. Republican commitment to “Law and Order” assured whites that black rebelliousness would be controlled by local law enforcement. After 1968, southern states that had once been solidly Democratic switched to the Republican Party.

Republican candidates have used the Southern Strategy ever since Nixon won in 1968 and had a landslide victory in 1972. Ronald Reagan clearly used it in 1980. He began his campaign in Philadelphia, Mississippi, the town that was infamous for the three civil rights workers murdered there during the Civil Rights Movement. Today, almost all white Southerners vote Republican.

This strategy has gained strength outside the South. Since 1972, Democratic Party candidates have won at least 80 percent of the black vote, and Republican candidates have won a majority of the white votes.

I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to everyone involved, for all your service, generosity, participation, and unwavering support in so many ways.

It was also very good to see my late friend and protege’ Joann Lockett’s mother, Ms. Alice Lockett.

As we look forward to the next 365 days, may they reflect God’s profound appreciation for your dedication and obedience to His Feast of Tabernacles mandate.

WARNING! LONG POST BUT WORTH THE READ.
In a world where individuals strive to establish a name and legacy for themselves, it is important to consider the significance of prioritizing the exaltation of the Lord's name above our own. It is crucial to ensure that His legacy is secure before ours. Reflect on the positive contributions you have made to the kingdom of God that will endure beyond your generation. Have you led lost souls to the kingdom of God? Do you maintain a righteous and healthy relationship with God and your fellow human beings? The scripture emphasizes that the righteous individual brings souls to the kingdom and magnifies the Lord. To magnify means to exalt.

Avoid focusing on trivial matters while neglecting essential responsibilities. Engaging in work devoid of righteousness is considered a form of demonic activity. Love and backbiting are incompatible within a righteous vessel, as backbiting constitutes a sin. Honesty, including in communication, is a divine mandate for those who have been born again. Talent should not serve as a substitute for character. Those who refuse to follow are not deserving of leadership. IJS. Take time to contemplate and reflect on these matters, as it aligns with the Father's will.
