Hello, everyone, and thank you for supporting "It's All Ephemera"!
In this month's homage to the past, we again visit England, the original home of tea room culture, with half a dozen wonderful examples of the unexpected, the odd, and the downright strange. A tea room in a windmill, a tea room hung with portraits of dogs in human clothing, a tea room overgrown with house-plants, a tiny tea room in an old blacksmith's forge that advertises the British tour of a well-known African-American blues singer in 1934. You know me by now, i hope. I write informative web pages on hoodoo, fortune telling, and world-wide folk magic which you can read for free -- but sometimes i just have to cut loose and show you the tea room that was donated to the town of Lickey by a scion of the Cadbury Chocolate family in 1904, because, well, just because.
Yet More English Tea Rooms:
[PATRONS GET THE SECRET URL IN EMAIL ONE YEAR BEFORE IT OPENS TO THE PUBLIC]
This week's web page continues my project of curating, scanning, and uploading rare old tea room postcard images and contextualizing them with accompanying descriptions. There are now 40 vintage postcards in the current iteration, "Yet More English Tea Rooms" -- which goes online tonight for my Patrons, in gratitude for your support. The public will not see it until June 7, 2027, at which point it will be opened for all to enjoy.
The Mystic Tea Room web site is dedicated to the traditional art of fortune telling by tea leaves, also known as tea leaf reading, cup reading, cup tossing, divination by tea leaves, tasseomancy, and tasseography. If you are not yet familiar with the public portion of the site, check it out!
