Grace Lutheran Church

Grace Lutheran Church Grace is an ELCA congregation (Evangelical Lutheran Church of America). We cultivate space for "community.FAITH.growth" in hands-on ways. Diversity is a gift.

We’re a lively faith community connecting across generations. We acknowledge church has much to answer for. We recognize our history and our heritage, the best & toughest times in the world & our local story. Christians, in the Lutheran tradition, our faith is rooted in a belief of God as made known to us in Jesus Christ. With intention: we seek to be hospitable with neighbors and newcomers (with

local resource partners); we use “safe sanctuary” practices for children, youth and adults, as do groups under our roof; we commit to open listening and reflection whenever people communicate authentically and directly with our community; and we believe God honors every human mess and can bring healing, (re)form and new life. So, we are people engaging everyday circles, our neighborhood and the world. We celebrate we’re forgiven, not perfect. Acceptance is a baseline. Self-control is learned; respect for others too. Crafting safe space gets attention. We like to have fun too. We share what we have with others because we can. In the process we discover the best life for ourselves!
“Through worship, service and education we practice our faith, grow our relationship with God and experience God’s grace in our lives.” (ELCA) In Forest Hills since June 24, 1926; we see we have much to offer our Metropolitan Ave—Union Turnpike community now and in years ahead. In the gospel reading for this coming Sunday, Jesus says that he will not leave us as orphans. One of the places where we are washed, fed, embraced and sustained by God is at worship. Come on Sunday, to join with all the baptized to receive the Spirit of the Risen Christ.

When in the early centuries of the church Christians first began to draw pictures of Jesus, they depicted him as the good shepherd. This coming Sunday we hear part of John 10, a chapter that elaborates on the image of Jesus as the shepherd. Come to worship, and join the rest of the sheep to honor ou...

What does it mean to be Christian? Christians are those who believe that Jesus Christ is risen from the dead and that he continues to enliven his people with his Spirit. To grasp something fully, we need to look at both sides. This coming Sunday is both Palm Sunday and the Sunday of the Passion. We join in the joy of the palm procession, and we gather in sorrow at the foot of the cross. Come to sing both “Hosanna!” and “Lord, have mercy upon us.”

Come to worship, to receive the breath of the Spirit, to hear the voice of Christ, to be fed at the table, and to celeb...
