5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord - Message 2

Day 2, Tuesday, June 2: Standing in the Name of the Lord

Reading: Exodus 14:13-16; Revelation 19:11-16

Devotion: David declared, “You come to me with sword and spear, but I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts.” The battle’s outcome wasn’t determined by weapons but by whose authority David carried. The Lord of hosts commands heaven’s armies—and He fights for His people. Moses stood before an impossible sea with only a staff, yet God parted the waters. You may feel you’re facing overwhelming odds, but remember: if God is with you, you’re never outnumbered. The same Jesus who will return as King of Kings and Lord of Lords walks with you today. Your giants may be formidable, but they’re no match for the One whose name you bear.

Reflective Question: Are you trying to fight your battles in your own strength, or are you standing in the authority of God’s name?

5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord - Message 2
Day 1, Monday, June 1: The Power of One Willing Heart

Reading: 1 Samuel 17:32-37

Devotion: When everyone else sees impossibility, God sees opportunity through one willing heart. David didn’t possess superior weapons or physical strength—he possessed unwavering faith in the God of Israel. While seasoned warriors trembled, a shepherd boy stepped forward. Your willingness matters more to God than your credentials. Perhaps you feel unqualified, inexperienced, or inadequate for what God is calling you to do. Remember, God doesn’t need your perfection; He needs your availability. What giant stands before you today? God isn’t looking for the most talented or experienced—He’s looking for someone who will trust Him completely. Your past faithfulness in small things has prepared you for this moment.

Reflective Question: What “giant” has immobilized you? Are you willing to let God use your ordinary life for His extraordinary purposes?

Summary from the sermon "When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord" from May 24 - Pastor Mike Snelgrove.

What if the biggest battle we face isn't "out there" but right here within the church? Last Sunday's message challenged us with the story of David and Goliath—but it's not about a giant. It's about a generation willing to stand when everyone else just shouts from a distance.

For 40 days, Israel's army talked big but did nothing. Then a shepherd boy said, "I'm getting my slingshot." David stood in the name of the Lord of hosts, and God was glorified through the most unlikely warrior. Today, only 4% of American adults have a biblical worldview. We're facing giants that grow bigger every day we ignore them—not by attacking people, but by failing to address sin with love and truth.

The question isn't whether Goliath is big. The question is: Will we stand? Will we fight battles no one else wants to fight, face enemies no one wants to face, and hear criticism no one wants to hear? God isn't looking for perfect soldiers. He's looking for faithful ones who come in His name.

5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord
Day 5, Friday, May 29: Rising Up Like David

Reading: Daniel 3:16-18

Devotion: David didn’t wait for permission or consensus—he ran toward the battle line. His courage came not from self-confidence but from confidence in God. Today, God needs men and women like Daniel, Elijah, Stephen, and David—people willing to stand when others sit, speak when others are silent, and act when others only complain. We’ve spent too long shouting about problems without doing anything to address them. The call isn’t to political activism or cultural warfare, but to personal holiness and courageous witness. Like Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, we must decide that even if God doesn’t deliver us the way we expect, we still won’t bow to cultural idols. Your generation, your moment, your calling—will you rise up? The Lord of hosts is with you. Stand in His name, fight His battles, and watch Him work through your faithfulness. The world needs to know there is a God who delivers and saves.

Reflective Question: David fought a battle that no one else wanted to fight. What are the modern-day ‘Goliaths’ in our culture that Christians are avoiding, and what would it look like for us to confront them?

5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord

Day 4, Thursday, May 28: Learning from History's Revolutions

Reading: Deuteronomy 6:4-12

Devotion: Those who refuse to study history are destined to repeat it. The French Revolution turned from God and descended into chaos and bloodshed. The American Revolution turned toward God and birthed the greatest nation in history. The difference wasn’t in their grievances but in their foundation. Today, only four percent of American adults hold a biblical worldview—down from twelve percent just years ago. We’re witnessing a revolution away from God’s truth. But God isn’t calling us to despair; He’s calling us to stand. Moses commanded Israel to remember—to teach God’s commands diligently, to talk about them constantly, to make them central to daily life. A biblical worldview means seeing all of reality through God’s truth.

Reflective Question: Are you passing this biblical worldview to the next generation? Don’t let the foundations crumble on your watch. Stand firm in God’s Word.

5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord

Day 3, Wednesday, May 27: Facing Giants with Faith

Reading: 1 Samuel 17:32-40

Devotion: Goliath wasn’t born ten feet tall—he grew that way because nobody confronted him. The issues threatening our faith and families today started small but have grown massive through neglect. David faced criticism from his own brother and skepticism from King Saul, yet he refused to wear armor that wasn’t his own. He relied on what God had already proven faithful—his slingshot and stones. We often try to fight spiritual battles with worldly weapons or someone else’s methods. God wants to use what He’s placed in your hands, proven in your past victories. That lion and bear David defeated prepared him for Goliath. Your past trials weren’t wasted—they equipped you for today’s challenges. Don’t let others’ doubt diminish your faith.

Reflective Question: What has God already proven faithful in your life? Use those tested tools to face today’s giants.

5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord

Day 2, Tuesday, May 26: Fighting Battles Others Won't

Reading: Galatians 6:1-5

Devotion: For forty days, Israel’s army stood paralyzed by fear while Goliath mocked them and their God. Sometimes the hardest battles are the ones nobody else wants to fight—confronting sin in love, speaking truth when silence is easier, restoring those who’ve fallen. The early church prioritized restoration of sinners, but today we often avoid these uncomfortable conversations. Like David, we may stand alone when we choose obedience over popularity. Restoration requires first acknowledging that sin is wrong, then gently guiding others back to God’s path. This isn’t about judgment but about loving people enough to help them find freedom.
Reflective Question: Are you avoiding a battle God has called you to fight? Perhaps someone needs your courage to speak truth in love. Stand up, not in self-righteousness, but in the spirit of gentleness, remembering your own vulnerability to temptation.

5-Day Devotional: 5-Day Devotional: When You Stand In The Name Of The Lord

Day 1, Monday, May 25: The Battle Belongs to the Lord

Reading: 1 Samuel 17:45-47

Devotion: David’s declaration to Goliath reveals a profound truth: our battles are ultimately God’s battles. When David said, “I come to you in the name of the Lord of hosts,” he acknowledged that victory depended not on human strength but on divine power. Today, we face giants of our own—moral compromise, cultural pressure, fear of standing for truth. Like David, we must recognize that we don’t fight alone. The Lord of hosts commands heavenly armies on our behalf. The question isn’t whether we’re strong enough, but whether we’re willing to stand in His name. When we align ourselves with God’s purposes, we tap into supernatural strength.

Reflective Question: What giant are you facing today? Remember, the battle belongs to the Lord, and He will give you victory as you trust in Him.
