Over my now 48 years in ministry, I’ve watched what the Bible warns about slowly play out in people’s lives over and over again.
Truth is more accessible than ever because of the internet, but deception is as well. Jesus warned repeatedly, “Take heed that no man deceive you.” Deception is dangerous because it is usually mixed in with truth and often happens gradually over time.
Please be careful who and what you listen to. Follow people and ministers who have a steady track record — not just in gifting or charisma, but in both godly living and sound doctrine. Sadly, we’ve watched people’s thinking slowly slide from what they once believed.
It’s not only doctrine that influences us — attitudes do too. The spirit of who we continually listen to or associate with can rub off on us as well. If someone is continually judgmental, argumentative, angry, or prideful, those attitudes can slowly affect our own hearts and thinking too.
People generally are like lemmings, simply following personalities, popularity, platforms, or charisma right off a cliff spiritually. But Jesus’ desire is that we remain faithful to the end — in holy living, attitudes, and truth.
Determine carefully who you will “follow” as they follow Christ.
