Statement from the International Offices and Presiding Bishop Tim Coalter

The International Offices of the Church of God of Prophecy, together with Presiding Bishop Tim Coalter, announce with deep sadness the passing of Bishop Adrian L. Varlack, Sr. We extend our heartfelt prayers and sympathy to the Varlack family and to the countless friends, colleagues, and spiritual sons and daughters around the world who were blessed by his remarkable life and ministry.

Bishop Varlack was a powerful, anointed preacher and one of the great statesmen of the Church of God of Prophecy. Larger than life in both presence and influence, he combined extraordinary wisdom with a keen historical mind and genuine kindness. He was beloved throughout our global fellowship and internationally respected not only within the Church of God of Prophecy but also among leaders of other organizations. His counsel was sought across denominational lines because of his integrity and scholarship.

For decades, Bishop Varlack faithfully served the Church in a variety of significant leadership roles: as Church Historian and Consultant to the General Overseer, Center for Biblical Leadership Instructor, Director of World Missions, a member and chairman of numerous Assembly committees, and in various advisory capacities that shaped the life and direction of the global Church. During pivotal moments in the Church's history, he was repeatedly entrusted with responsibilities requiring wisdom, discernment, and the confidence of the International Assembly and the International Presbytery.

As a global family, we celebrate a life marked by faithful service, scholarly excellence, spiritual wisdom, and steadfast devotion to the kingdom of God. While we mourn his passing, we rejoice in the assurance that he has now entered the joyous presence of the Savior whom he served so faithfully.

Please join the International Offices and the Office of the Presiding Bishop in praying for the Varlack family during this season of grief. May they know the abiding comfort and peace of the Holy Spirit, and may the Lord continue to honor the enduring legacy of Bishop Adrian L. Varlack, Sr., whose life has left an indelible mark on the Church of God of Prophecy and on the kingdom of God around the world.

As arrangements for a celebration of his life are made, details will be shared.

North America says thank you to Bishop and Sister Pruitt!

We are grateful for their years of service and dedication to North America Church of God of Prophecy.

Phil Pruitt is a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy, where he has served as an ordained minister for more than 46 years. Before meeting Karen Diana Pruitt, who would later become his wife, Phil served 14 months as a volunteer missionary in San Salvador, El Salvador, supporting himself by teaching English at 2 schools. After two years of marriage, he and Diana served as missionaries in Paraguay (6 years) and in Colombia (2 years). He has also served as a pastor in Ontario, Canada (3 years), and in Birmingham, Alabama (24 years).

Phil describes his calling as a pastor-teacher and has served in various educational ministries of the church: Bible Training Institute (BTI); School of Practical and Advanced Studies (SOPAS) in the United States, Central and South America; ITS, INTECA, and SETEMIN in California. He has also served as an adjunct professor at Lee University Online.

Phil served on the Tomlinson College Board for 6 years and currently serves as the chairman of the Biblical Doctrine and Polity Committee for the Church of God of Prophecy. Phil has served as State Bishop of the Churches of God of Prophecy in California for 12 years.

Phil earned a Bachelor of Science from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, a Master of Divinity from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University, and a Doctor of Ministry from the School of Theology at The University of the South.

Phil and Diana are the parents of one son, Gabriel, who is married to Stacey. They have given Phil and Diana 2 wonderful grandchildren: Preston (16) and Kloe (14).

Phil and Diana are abundantly blessed and honored to have the privilege of serving their brothers and sisters in the Churches of God of Prophecy in California.
