What a great read…..

Smell Bag

When I was growing up in Cleveland, we used to love to go to the corner store and buy penny candy, like squirrels and jawbreakers. It was a great time. Even better was when we had a bit more moolah and bought potato chips. I delighted in slowly munching on those greasy chips. Now, what we did after finishing off those potato chips may seem a bit odd to you. We would slowly, carefully fold up those bags and put them in our pockets.

Now, you may be asking yourself, why in the world would a kid keep an empty potato chip bag in his pocket. Well, I'll tell you. The next time we were hankering for some chips, but had no chip money, we'd simply pull out that bag and smell inside it. That would be enough to remind us of the good taste and quell our hankering. This my friends was called a smell bag. The smell reminded us of the past contents even though there were no potato chips left. Strange but true - A smell bag.

Well, as Christians, we are also a kind of smell bag. As in 2 Corinthians 2:11; “For we are to God the aroma of Christ among those who are being saved and those who are perishing. To the one we are the smell of death; to the other, the fragrance of life.”

So we smell of Christ. Our spiritual aroma encourages and ministers to those who know and love our Savior. That same aroma of Christ challenges and convicts those who do not know the Savior. Boy, the Spirit is working through us in a phenomenal way. So, now people should not only see Christ in us but should also smell His aroma. What a strange and wonderful thing. But then again, smell bags are like that, aren't they.
