Associates of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes

Associates of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes Called by the Spirit to be Associates, we are a community who welcomes a vibrant, mutual relationship with the Congregation of Sisters of Saint Agnes.

CHARISM

Charism is an extraordinary power given by the Holy Spirit for the good of the Church. Charism can often defy clear definition. It begins with the gifts of a founding person or persons who respond to a call to address a particular need of their time. Charism is where the deep story and needs of the times are met. It calls us. Associates and Religious live the same charism, but in unique w

ays and lifestyles. It is often said that charism is caught more than taught. Both vowed members and associates honor, respect, and support one another’s call by their presence and prayer. CSA CHARISM

The charism of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes in the Constitutions state: “Our religious heritage calls us to missionary zeal for nurturing the seed of faith and a pastoral concern for those whose faith life or human dignity is threatened.” (4)

“The spirit of our founders challenges us to respond to life with wholeheartedness and joy, to manifest unassuming simplicity in all our relationships, and to receive with genuine hospitality all who come to us.” (5)

This charism guides the daily life, mission, and ministry of the sisters. The congregation is guided by the missionary zeal of Father Caspar Rehrl, the courageous initiatives of Mother Agnes Hazotte, and the spiritual influence of Father Francis Haas, OFM Capuchin. The charism and mission of the congregation and its founders are important to the Sisters of St. Agnes and Associates, alike. The charism is the foundational source for the spiritual growth of the associates. Associates are called to live the CSA charism and mission in their daily lives and with the associate community in service to others. CSA CORPORATE STANCES

Supporting the mission and corporate stances of the Congregation calls us to bring alive the values of love, justice, and compassion with our voices and our lives. We are part of a greater collaboration in bringing the Gospel message to the world. Affirming a corporate stance is an act of public support and commitment on behalf of the associate community to the mission of the congregation. The CSA Associate Community voted for affirmation of all CSA corporate stances. Through this process, we deepened our commitment to the CSA charism and mission in a shared experience as community and continue to reflect on the values represented in these documents to discover where the Spirit is leading us as an associate community. Each summer in June, CSA celebrates our sisters and associates who are celebrating a milestone year of service to CSA. In 2026 we have 21 Jubilarians; 16 sisters and 5 associates celebrating. Today, we feature Ron Palm, CSA Associate who will be celebrating 15 years. Ron's Jubilarian profile contains his response to this reflection prompt; "An experience that affirms his commitment to the associate relationship".

Being an Associate of CSA has brought me closer to Jesus through my prayer life. As I participate in Associate activities, I have become more aware of the poor and disenfranchised of society especially with working through veterans organizations serving food and donating clothing to the homeless veteran. I also find a calling to pray and am more aware of those who need our assistance. I try to set an example of saying a meal prayer before meals even when we have company, and they may be of another faith or no faith at all. Following the Beatitudes and the Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy has made me more aware of our global church. Meeting Bishop Robert Morneau and attending one of his retreats was one of the most inspirational experiences of my life and I realized that taking time to just BE is often very important in my life so I can listen to the call of what the CSA Mission Statement means to me.

When we visited Bisbee, Arizona and Mexico, I experienced the significance of the wall. We also visited a family in Nex Mexico and was inspired by how they lived.

Each summer in June, CSA celebrates our sisters and associates who are celebrating a milestone year of service to CSA. In 2026 we have 21 Jubilarians; 16 sisters and 5 associates celebrating. Today, we feature Maureen Sanner, CSA Associate who will be celebrating 15 years. Maureen's Jubilarian profile contains her response to this reflection prompt; "A Blessing She Would Like to Share"

I have been blessed in so many ways over the years! Jesus loves me, my guardian angel is my best friend, especially on trips. God has given me food, health, a fantastic family; mother, father, 6 sisters. He gave me 2 biological children and 3 stepchildren, 5 grandchildren and 5 great grands. God led me to become an associate where I have met many wonderful, intelligent, caring people. I have been blessed with good health so I can get myself up each day and go where I need to go. I have faith, family, friends and usually have enough energy to share time with others. And I love to sing and have been blessed with the ability to carry a tune!!!

CSA Leadership Calls for Nonviolence, Action, & Prayer
By Sisters of St. Agnes (CSA)

Dear Sisters, Associates, Staff, and Friends,

In the face of our government threatening war crimes, genocide and erasure of an entire civilization, Pope Leo teaches us that we cannot remain silent. When things get to this point, we must be honest and clear-eyed about what is happening around us and to us. Systems are collapsing, and, as this is occurring, it becomes more and more impossible to ignore. We are surrounded by the horrors of war and domination. We can no longer explain it away or go along with it or try to believe that this is just how things are now.

We live challenged by the nonviolent life of Jesus as presented in the Gospels, by our Mission Statement wherein we write “we continue to respond in our own times to those whose faith life or human dignity is threatened,” and by our Statement on Nonviolence from 2002. To us, that means that we cannot allow ourselves to get used to this violent way of dealing with issues, this constant harming of our neighbors both local and global, this abuse of power and this greed that seem to be driving so much of human life in this time.

So, we resist. We speak out. We protest. We vote. We call and write to those who represent us even though so much is out of our control. We reach out to each other and tend to our relationships with fierce love, honest conversation, and deep connection. We call ourselves and each other to a certain steadiness that Vaclav Havel wrote about: hope is “not the conviction that something will turn out well, but the certainty that something makes sense, regardless of how it turns out.” (Disturbing the Peace, 1986)

We cannot tire in this struggle. As our founder, Father Caspar Rehrl encouraged us: “Love must unite us beyond all difficulties.” (Constitutions, p. 20) So we call on all people of good will to join with us in this holy work of Gospel nonviolence and resistance in love. We invite all of you to gather at our Motherhouse (330 County Road K, Fond du Lac) one Sunday a month for a time of Quiet Contemplative Prayer for Peace. The next date is April 19, 2026, at 4 p.m. in our chapel. Come pray with us and firm up the relationships that make for an emerging network of love.

Let us follow Jesus, Prince of Peace, together.

Sisters Peg, Lael, Madeline, and Sharon

Making Sugar Eggs
by Lynn Barbeau, CSA Associate

I saw an article about a class for making Sugar Eggs at a nearby parish of Polish heritage and signed up! I had seen these on sale at the parish and fondly remember receiving them as a child in my Easter Basket! We called them ‘peep eggs’ then, but instead of the large cutout on one side, ours were often on the end of the egg.

First we made the egg pieces in a mold using sugar and egg whites, followed by frosting for piping, and finally molded pieces with edible modeling paste were used to decorate the egg. Many decorations are made in molds, but some are piped like cake decorating. I used tweezers to place some pieces inside and on top. The entire egg is edible, but I’m not sure I would eat this given all the detail and steps involved! Not all eggs from my childhood were religious, but many were and remind me that “Christ is Risen! He is risen indeed!” Happy Easter!
