An unsaved person (whether your child, your spouse, a family member or friend) has no reason to want to conform to what seem like arbitrary, outdated social norms, much less follow the precepts and principles of Scripture. We know that the cross is counter-cultural. It doesn't make sense to those who don't have the spiritual guidance of the Holy Spirit. They would even consider the Christian walk to be "brain-washed", "indoctrinated", "manipulative".

However, we know that living in the world, living in sin, and pursuing personal truth will only lead to destruction. People separated from God don’t need to act better; they need new life in Christ – pray first for their salvation, over a change of lifestyle. Only God can lead them to desire the good things He offers, the narrow path, and righteousness.
