God’s Greater Purpose in Broken Relationships
Genesis 45
After years of betrayal, slavery, false accusation, and imprisonment, Joseph stood before the very brothers who had thrown him into a pit and sold him for silver. Instead of revenge, he offered reconciliation. He wept openly, drew them near, and spoke words of comfort: God sent me here.
Joseph’s life was marked by deep pain, yet he never became bitter. He recognized God’s sovereign hand weaving even the worst evil into something life-preserving. What his brothers meant for harm, God meant for good—to save a family, preserve a nation, and protect the line through which the Messiah would eventually come.
This is the power of biblical reconciliation: restoring broken relationships by releasing them into God’s greater purpose. Just as God reconciled us to Himself through Jesus’ death on the cross while we were still His enemies, He calls us to pursue peace with others.
God is never surprised by betrayal. He specializes in revealing Himself in our brokenness.
Forgiveness is not pretending it didn’t happen. It’s choosing to see God’s hand and releasing the right to revenge.
Bitterness loses its power when we embrace God’s providence: “You meant evil against me, but God meant it for good” (Genesis 50:20).
Application:
Pray for the person who hurt you by name.
Take responsibility for your part (even if small).
Extend specific forgiveness because Christ forgave you.
Restore what you can—through blessing, provision, or renewed relationship.
Prayer:
Lord, thank You that nothing is wasted in Your hands. Help me to release bitterness and trust Your sovereignty in every painful chapter of my story. Give me the courage to forgive as Joseph did and as Jesus did for me. Draw me near to You, and make me an instrument of reconciliation. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

As I sit and relax on this rainy Memorial Day I can not help to think of how many of our military men abroad and at home sat in the trenches wet, cold, hungry, and tired fighting for our freedoms. Many lost their lives for our freedoms we enjoy today 1.3 million as a matter of fact. We live in the greatest country in the world. Thank you to the families of these men and woman who lost their loved ones, are prayers are with you and continue to go out for you. May God give you the strength and the resolve to keep moving forward on a daily basis, We will never forget those who gave their lives for our freedoms. We honor them today and every day. May God help us as a country as the tyranny in our government rages on - There are those in Washington D.C who stand for what God stands for and the other half stands for evil. And we the people have lost our way - Pastors are silent and the church is sleeping. Yet God has a remnant in the land. God help us find our moral compass - and help us find our way back to you - May your divine hand be upon our land and may you rise up and awaken Gods people - In Jesus Name Amen

This quote is from John Adams (1734-1826), a signatory of the Declaration of Independence, one of the framers of the Constitution, and the second president of the United States of America. This quote, and especially its famous last line, expresses a sentiment widely held among the statesmen of the Founding Generation that no matter how well a constitution is constructed, It will not insure freedom and prosperity unless it is supported by a moral, virtuous population.

The State

While our country remains untainted with the principles and manners which are now producing desolation in so many parts of the world; while she continues sincere, and incapable of insidious and impious policy, we shall have the strongest reason to rejoice in the local destination assigned us by Providence. But should the people of America once become capable of that deep simulation towards one another, and towards foreign nations, which assumes the language of justice and moderation while it is practising iniquity and extravagance, and displays [229] in the most captivating manner the charming pictures of candor, frankness, and sincerity, while it is rioting in rapine and insolence, this country will be the most miserable habitation in the world; because we have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other.

Genesis 44
When God Tests the Heart
“Then Judah said, ‘What shall we say to my lord? What shall we speak? Or how shall we clear ourselves? God has found out the iniquity of your servants...’”
The brothers of Joseph thought the worst was behind them. They had dined in the governor’s house, been treated with honor, and were heading home with grain during a devastating famine. Then came the test: Joseph’s silver cup planted in Benjamin’s sack.
What started as a morning like any other quickly became a day of exposure. The brothers, who once sold Joseph into slavery and lied to their father for twenty-two years, now faced the consequences of their hidden sin. Their dramatic offer to become slaves and Judah’s passionate plea to take Benjamin’s place revealed something beautiful: genuine repentance and changed hearts. The guilt they had buried was finally brought into the light.
Joseph’s test was not meant to destroy them but to reveal what was in them. In the same way, God sovereignly uses tests and uncomfortable circumstances in our lives—not to harm us, but to surface buried sin, expose selfish motives, and draw us into deeper transformation. As the sermon reminded us, God does not tempt us to sin (James 1:13), but He does test us, just as He tested Abraham, Job, and even Jesus.
Sin always finds us out (Numbers 32:23). Concealing sin prevents prosperity, but confession brings mercy (Proverbs 28:13).
God is working even in the pressure. What feels like a “cup in your sack” may be His loving way of bringing freedom.
True change produces sacrificial love. Judah’s willingness to substitute himself for Benjamin foreshadows Christ, who took our place on the cross.
Application:
Start your day aware that God knows your heart completely. Ask the Holy Spirit to search you: Are there sins I’ve buried? Grudges I’ve hidden? Fears I haven’t surrendered? Bring them into the light today. God’s mercies are new every morning, and His thoughts toward you are for peace and hope (Jeremiah 29:11).
Like Joseph’s brothers, you may be one honest confession away from restoration and freedom. Like Judah, you may be one surrendered moment away from being powerfully used by God.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for tests that reveal my heart. Bring to light anything I’ve hidden. Give me grace to confess, repent, and walk in freedom. Transform me so my life shows evidence of Your changing power—especially in how I love others. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
