In Acts 11, the early believers were first called “Christians” at Antioch, a city known for its ungodliness and immorality. Yet in the midst of those surroundings, the Gospel was changing lives. Barnabas came alongside these new believers and encouraged them to remain faithful to the Lord with steadfast hearts.
There is enough criticism in the world. We need more Barnabases to come alongside others and remind them, “God is not through with you yet!” The grace God gives us through difficult seasons can become the same grace and encouragement we offer to someone else.
As we go into this week, may our lives show others what it means to follow Jesus. Let us forgive because we have been forgiven, extend grace because we have received grace, and serve because Christ first served us. Some of the faithful believers in Acts 11 were never even named, yet God used their obedience to accomplish His work. We don’t serve so people will remember our names; we serve so people will know His name.
Speak Jesus. Love Jesus. Serve Jesus by serving others.
